What's The Story Behind Your FR Handle?
Free Republic ^ | 23 July 2017 | Windy

I've always wondered about the origins and meanings (if any) behind others Freeper handles. Its a quiet Sunday morning, so I thought it would be an interesting topic to start the day.

What's the story behind your handle?

I adore Latin culture and I have always been really, really attracted to very long haired, deeply tanned morenas, such as my wife. I mean, since early high school which is forever ago. My family is also very, very historically Southern. Caipira translates as "redneck" and harkens back to fun days, good times that I will never forget while celebrating my own proud Southern heritage. I guess I culturally just went South until I didn't have to ask for sweet tea and kept on going until they were serving matte and chicha. 😜

A hat tip to the founders and the arguments that helped shape this grand experiment...updated to the new millennium.

You and I know it’s stage craft stuff. I play pedal steel, and don’t sing at all, but I had a mike. Entertain!

I just re-read “Combat Unit” this morning :-)

I don’t know what it is about Laumer’s Bolos and Retief stories that I enjoy so much. But when I desire a little break from reality, reading Laumer never fails to satisfy.

Command: “Death by Chains.”
Response: “So judged.”

One of my favorite books is The Divine Comedy, and I was reading some of Virgil”s writings at the time I signed up on FR. Virgil plays the part as the voice of reason through Dante”s tour of The Inferno. So, I took the name of this famous Roman poet as my handle. Some FReepers mistake me as being male, but I’m a woman. Honest mistake, but I appreciate the chance to clear the air. :-).

Part-time musician, I wanted the screen name “rocker” but it was taken. I modified the spelling and the rest is history.

Liberal local rag refused to post my conservative comments to the online edition. I finally had to talk to the editor and go over their posting policy line by line and ask her where I had violated the policy.

I accused her of censorship and said she should be ashamed.

My comments were posted soon after.

Other than professional success, MANY parallels in personal life with the former VP. Not to mention a propensity for issuing a 3 word dismissive to annoying dipshits.

Mine is self explanatory. You can take the kid out of the Midwest, but not the Midwest out of the kid.

Although I had read posts on Free Republic for 1-2 years before joining, I was finally spurred to sign onto FR during the Bush vs Gore post-election controversy of 2000; hence, I chose it to show support for W and opposition to the Democrat attempt to steal the election.

Thanks for the book recommendation. After I retire, I plan on going back to my old bookworm ways. That’s one I’ll surely get to.
