Far be it from us to throw shade on your home sweet home, but the data does not lie. The Quality of Life category in our annual America's Top States for Business study ranks all 50 states on overall livability based on metrics, including crime rate, attractions, air quality, health and health care and legal protections against discrimination...
10. KENTUCKY.. More than a quarter of adults are regular smokers in Kentucky, the highest rate in the country. The state also has the nation's highest rate of cancer deaths and one of the highest rates of cardiovascular deaths...
9. (tie) NEW MEXICO... has one of the highest violent-crime rates in the country...
9. (tie) TENNESSEE... among the most violent in the country...with high rates of cancer and diabetes..
7. MISSISSIPPI... is one of only 5 states with no law protecting non-disabled people against discrimination...
6. INDIANA... lacks some basic protections against discrimination based on marital status, sexual orientation and gender identity...
5. MISSOURI... also lacks statewide protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, marital status, and gender identity. And the state is near the bottom for public health funding...
4. ARKANSAS... The natural state here: inactive, unhealthy, and crime-ridden.
3. OKLAHOMA... Heavy tobacco use yes, Okies are smoky contributes to one of the highest rates of premature death in the nation. The state has one of the worst infant mortality rates, and reported mental health issues are widespread. Despite that, Oklahoma ranks in the bottom five states for health insurance coverage.
2. LOUISIANA... this is America's fattest state. It is also among the most dangerous, with the nation's highest murder rate.
1. ALABAMA Sweet home? Not if you are over 50, a minority, gay or transgender and you are concerned about discrimination. Alabama is one of only five states with no statewide legal protections for those groups, making it one of America's least inclusive states. It is also one of America's least healthy states, with the nation's third-highest rate of premature deaths. On a positive note, the skies are blue and the governor's true.
I’m in one of those states right now.
High crime rate, high obesity rare, one of the lowest life expectancies in the country.
Food is good, hunting in usually good, but it has been raining and thunder storming for days and I can’t go fishing.
Aside from that, all is quiet in the bayou.
“1,200 people a day move to Dallas/Ft Worth. Read that again.”
That would be 438,000 people per year.
Where did you get that stat?
People do not understand that we maybe fat in Louisiana but we are fat and HAPPY. Another thing, if you take out New Orleans and Baton Rouge La. would not have a high murder and crime rate. I currently reside on a Parish that is north of Orleans Parish but we have a lower crime rate than most of the country. We also have a whole lot of cops here. Can you guess why?
This one differs with me:
Recent studies show nearly 80,000 people are moving to the DFW area per year! Thats over 6500 per month! CrAzY!
http://kluv.cbslocal.com/2016/04/08/how-many-people-are-moving-to-dallas/
This one just counts Dallas:
Nearly 300 people move to Dallas every single day. Here’s why
https://www.lawnstarter.com/dallas-tx-lawn-care/6-reasons-everyone-is-moving-to-dallas
Bump that!
Austin is at around 125 people per day.
The Austin MSA has a population of 2,000,000
DFW has a population of 7,000,000.
Austin is growing at a faster rate.
I know. It's blowing my business up, and jacking up the dollar value of my house like crazy.
Not all migrating Californians are liberal. I relocated six solid conservatives from California to Texas, eleven years ago.
Yes, just look at your recent property appraisals from the county ex http://www.dcad.org/ for Dallas Cty, rocketing up in the last couple or three years. Plano in Collin County is currently absorbing the new campus/HQ of Toyota USA and Toyota have been surprised at the high numbers electing to relocate from California. Hopefully not too many are hardcore (D).
Perhaps there is a causation? Just saying....
I was raised in Chino, California and I’m sure not a liberal.
“Actually my ESP put the individual close to 280lbs and quite liberal.
Lets all watch.”
Good one:)
I wasn’t going to respond but, for amusement, I decided to indulge him for the heck of it.
And if i recall correctly, your state voted 80% against "gay" marriage.
Indeed, and see post # 2. But surrender to the Lord Jesus and go where He leads you to minister.
after watching some of the shows about drug running, you couldn’t pay me to move to Texas with the cartels
They left out that TN has a high welfare population in big dem held cities with very high crime rates, Memphis is the crime Capitol. As well as welfare unto the 4th generation, with the b worse schools in the state.
Will take a ride this weekend and check out the area. Had dreams of having a country log cabin when we moved to TN. Turns out we’re stuck in a Stepford clone — close neighbors, hard-ass HOA, Barbie-Ken residents. Not a warm and fuzzy place.
My Dad wanted to purchase this place but never got around to it. Property was cheap in the early 70’s. I think he paid around 7K for the lakefront on Gilbert Ln.
This was just a marina back then but I guess they have a decent grill their now.
