The legendary creator of the "Night of the Living Dead" zombie franchise, George A. Romero, died Sunday at the age of 77, Fox News has confirmed.
Romero died "peacefully" while sleeping after a "brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer," his manager, Chris Roe, said in a statement. The filmmaker was "listening to the score of The Quiet Man, one of his all-time favorite films" with his family by his side, the manager added.
Romero co-wrote and directed "Night of the Living Dead" in 1968, which went on to become a cult classic.

He played an integral role in turning Pittsburgh into the
Hollywood on the Monongahela that it is today.
I have mixed feelings about that. RIP anyway.

No, that's in the original NOTLD. The Sheriff is being interviewed and is asked, "Are they slow-moving Chief?" My fave scene in the movie!
Return of the Living Dead is great also. Lotsa humor in that one.

Still the best zombie movie.

I saw Dawn of the Dead when I was about 8 and was so horrified by the bikers getting their intestines eaten I wouldn’t watch it again. Finally bought it and watched it after so long and had a laugh at the bright blood, but that scene stuck with me.

Today Andrew Zimmern is on the air 30 hrs./week. How far we've come.

That is a great movie. Love how they mix comedy with the horror like American Werewolf in London.

George never called them zombies in his movies. Though one of the interesting tropes of zombie is that zombie fiction doesn’t exist in those worlds (at least most of them), so nobody knows what they are. Unlike vampire fiction where everybody knows what vampires are.

Return is where the Brains thing comes from. It started as a novel sequel to Night written Russo who wrote Night, but then Russo and George split up, Russo kept the rights to “Living Dead” which is why George’s movies dropped the “Living”. Great soundtrack too.

Is he merely dead, or really most sincerely dead?
RIP.

I love the “Old” movies.
Romero was a master in his genre too.
