Turkish high school students will no longer be taught the theory of evolution.
The subject has been cut from the curriculum under changes made to eliminate controversial topics, the head of the national board of education, Alpaslan Durmus, announced in a video address. If our students dont have the background, the scientific knowledge, or information to comprehend the debate around controversial issues, we have left them out, Durmus said.
The new curriculum will go into effect for the 2017- 2018 school year. It was crafted to emphasize national values and highlight contributions made by Turkish and Muslim scholars, Durmus said. [ ]
Critics view the changes in the education system as another step in the ruling Justice and Development Partys ambitions to make Turkey more conservative. Erdogan has been vocal about wanting to raise a pious generation.

Modern Turkey was the achievement of a great man - Kemal Ataturk. Erdogan is dismantling all of Ataturk’s work and returning Turkey to the fold of Muslim ignorance - within a few decades Turkey will be as backward as Pakistan or Saudi Arabia.
Although I bet they will still teach that Jews descended from pigs and apes...
Do not see the problem. I was taught...but never believed...the evolution fairy tale in high school. What a waste of time.
Evolution is junk science.
Stopped clock, twice a day.
>the evolution fairy tale in high school
Right. All that is and will ever be was “created” a few thousand years ago according to a handful of freshly created humans.
If life was only so simple.
Yep. The secular state of Turkey will be just another wahabbist craphole soon. There is no such thing as a secular Islamic state. Fundamentalist Islam is incompatible with modern concepts of personal liberty and free will
Always celebrate your enemy’s foolish decisions.
In America we had a great science fiction movie “Back to the Future”.
In Turkey, we have a fascist/islamist dictator who wants to take his country “Back to the Past”.
That is why America is Great and Turkey is a political and religious shithole. It’s a shame because a lot of Turkish people are really nice and hard working folks. It’s their leaders who suck.
.One day they may be yours
God created everything and His gifts to man included curiosity and wonder, so that we could appreciate the universe and its grandeur.
Evolution is the journey since Creation - it is not blasphemy to find evidence of extinctions - just proof of life’s changing patterns.
That's devolution--evolution with a sign change.
I discovered evolution from my "saintly," ruling elder father while out hunting rabbits. Only he called it "survival of the fittest."
Evolution isn't something you can "believe." You must of had a rather poor teacher!
There is no evidence for evolution. Extinctions are extinctions. The theory itself is derived from old pagan beliefs, and Darwin intended it as an attack on belief in God. Unless it came from scripture, it has to be rejected as heresyespecially with the pagan connection.
Sorry if my understanding of God’s hand in our history is wrong. However, facts are facts and we have ‘evolved’.
Evolution is change in the heritable traits of biological populations over successive generations. Evolutionary processes give rise to diversity at every level of biological organisation, including the levels of species, individual organisms, and molecules.
There are no facts to show anything of the sort. With all due respect. Unless one is saying that such heritable traits never change one species into another.
FWICS, there is still no concord between Christ and Belial. Evolution is a specific denial of the spiritual, to boot.
Don’t try and argue science and/or logic against dogma.
Dogma will ALWAYS win.
So how did the universe get here?
