Eric Clapton Just Caught the Year's Biggest Salmon in Iceland
Mens Journal ^ | 6/29/2017 | Lauren Steele

Rock & roll legend. World-class guitarist. Record-setting angler? Turns out that Eric Clapton, one of the greatest musicians of all time, is just as good with a fly rod as he is a guitar.

Clapton, while on a fly-fishing trip to Iceland last week, landed a 28-pound salmon on the Vatnsdalsá River, setting the record for reeling in the biggest salmon of the summer. The massive fish measured 42.5 inches. Working with Vatnsdalsá guide Sturla Birginsson, Clapton had to run over half a mile downriver after hooking the monster, and spent two and a half hours reeling it in. The local fishing association enforces a strict catch-and-release policy on the Vatnsdalsá River, but Clapton was able to snap a picture of his record-setting catch before setting it back into the river.

Don’t be a Debbie Downer. This is a cool story about something other than “Russia!”, for a change.

See 38.

Does Trump’s proclivity with various women make him a bad president?

As an example... perhaps I should have written “Bonamassa, for example” but I didn’t, and can’t edit anything without an edit function. I also cannot drive home, open up a document and finely craft a response that is worthy of a pulitzer prize. So Freepers get the smartphone on-the-fly version.

Clapton himself would say that as a guitar player, he can’t hold a candle to Jimi Hendrix.

Does that include one of the best adulterers of all time?

He had a "catch and release" policy with the wimmen.

Yep, most entertainers/artists are scumbags.
If we had a purity test regarding every piece of culture we consume, life would be rather boring as some of the greatest artists/entertainers in History were batzhit insane, horrible people.

Given a choice, there are many guitar players I would pay to experience live before Clapton. I saw Cream live in 1968 and Clapton was really cooking but then he had Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. I’d go see Jeff Beck again and again. Same with McLaughlan who I saw with Mahavishnu in ‘73. Pat Martino without a doubt. Saw Bonamassa up close and personal on a cruise a year ago. Never heard of him but my wife bought the tickets so off we sailed. Bonamassa flat out smokes it. Johnny A was there and he is just a six string monster. And about twenty other electric blues guitarists that would have given Clapton a run for his money at his prime. So sorry I missed the young Peter Green and Mike Bloomfield. And Buchanan and Gatton. All those guys could play rings around Clapton.
