New Study Finds That Coconut Oil Isn't Healthy
NBC Mnbc ^ | 6/19 | Brandon Lopez

A new study shows that coconut oil isn’t as healthy as many believed it was. In fact, it’s not healthy at all.

According to the American Heart Association, a recent survey showed that 72 percent of Americans surveyed rated coconut oil as a “healthy food,” compared to 37 percent of nutritionists.

The report went on to say that the saturated fat content of coconut oil is 82 percent, which is the bad type of fat. A chart in the document shows that coconut oil has more saturated fat than lard, canola oil or even butter.

The results of a study conducted by the AHA show that coconut oil increases LDL cholesterol and has "no known offsetting favorable effects." The AHA concluded that they advise against the use of coconut oil.

Olive oil and vegetable oil are considered to be better alternatives.

Yup. I dropped the carbs, upped the fat and my blood pressure, which has been on the "borderline high" range for 25 years, has dropped over just four months to a perfect 117/74 as just measured today.

In fact I cut carbs in February and every measure of my cardiovascular health is better: triglycerides down, HDL up, blood pressure normal, blood glucose down, etc - the only exception is LDL is slightly up. But we're to beleive that getting LDL down is worth jacking all those other things? Never again!

Read "The Big Fat Surprise" by Nina Teicholz if you want to get mad at how the scientific "consensus" on healthy eating came to be and how it has messed us up. Lots of parallels with global warming, actually. Scientists who came up with a theory (saturated fat -> hear attacks) that they cannot prove but if there's a chance it's true we MUST take action! Then demonize anyone who disagrees, pull their funding, and ruin their careers. And watch two generations of Americans get fat while cardiac issues get no better.

"OK, so we’re warned. Now, can you tell us which brands are the real deal?"

Check this article: "Which Olive Oil to Buy? The Olive Oil Fraud!" (One brand on their "good" olive oil list is "California Olive Ranch" brand, which is available at Walmart, believe it or not.)

The study was funded by Big Pharma that wants the public to continue to buy their jacked up rip off man made drugs that kills over 200,000 people annually.

Yeah never mind what God has provided and listen to the modern day quacks that are ripping everyone off and killing them. Again over 200,000 annually from pharmaceutical drugs.

There are two kinds of saturated fats, trans-fat and cis-fat....

Please take a course in organic chemistry before you say this kind of stuff.

You know the words, but do not know what they mean...

The science is settled.

Are you some kind of a Nutrition Denier?

And tomorrow, when we say the opposite, the science will still be settled.

What are you doing, still believing what we said yesterday instead of what we are saying today? Don’t you believe in Science, you unsophisticated rube?

So, which is it, really?

These things fluctuate. Follow the money. The coconut lobby must be losing ground this year.

” And it raises both LDL (bad) and HDL (good) so prove it’s really bad for you.”

Even the LDL versus HDL narrative is nonsensical junk science. I am mad as hell that all these fads, theories, models, beliefs on bad fat/good fat propagandised upon us as “facts” and “science”. Every thinking person should be.

If they think processed rancid seed oil is healthy, it shows how wrong they are. Clean saturated fat is not unhealthy.

It isn’t about the sedentary. As long as they don’t eat any carbs other than veggies, roots, and a little fruit, coconut oil is healthy. If they eat donuts and sandwiches, forget it.

Excellent post.

When we fed our adopted baby the Weston A. Price homemade raw milk formula, it was composed of all the essential fats in proper quantities. To get the omega 6, there was a tiny amount of organic cold pressed sunflower oil added. But as soon as the baby started eating ANY solids, boom, you drop that ingredient because omega 6s are in everything already.

On skin care and disease websites you have all these women advocating and apparently liking the results of using coconut oil on their faces. Must be organic they say. Others recommend the use of olive or jojoba oil. Oils are very popular now for cleansing/moisturizing with problem skin especially. Weird cause I’ve always been told by the derm to use “oil-free” products. I’d think they would clog pores.

“It is the kind of stubborn fat that can NEVER be exercised or starved off the fat stores deposited throughout the body.”

That’s my story and I am sticking to it!

That makes more sense in one paragraph than most scientific Journals.

The premise behind this test is that exta-virgin olive oil is comprised of mostly monounsaturated fats which solidify when cold. So, if you put real extra-virgin olive oil in the fridge, it ought to become thick and cloudy. Some high-wax varieties of olive oil will even solidify completely.

For thousands of years humans followed the coastlines and waterways in search of one thing “Fat”. We developed special tools just to be able to remove the most nutrient and calorie rich parts of the body such as marrow and brains. Plant matter was only a small part of humans early survival. Pemmican is made from dried meats, fat and many times crushed dried berries were added. This mixture was high in calories, saturated fats and could be kept for years and taken with them on their travels.
