Adam West an actor defined and also constrained by his role in the 1960s series Batman died Friday night in Los Angeles. He was 88. A rep said that he died after a short battle with leukemia.
Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans lives. He was and always will be our hero, his family said in a statement.
With its Wham! Pow! onscreen exclamations, flamboyant villains and cheeky tone, Batman became a surprise hit with its premiere on ABC in 1966, a virtual symbol of 60s kitsch. Yet Wests portrayal of the superhero and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne, ultimately made it hard for him to get other roles, and while he continued to work throughout his career, options remained limited because of his association with the character.

The article fails to mention that West has had a recurring role on Family Guy, playing crazy Mayor West of Quahog, RI, home of the Griffin Family.

Who remembers the Batman cards when the show was popularI do! My brother collected those but I definitely remember his collection. I also remember having my tonsils out just when the show became popular. I was six years old. My dad brought a Batman hand puppet to the hospital for me because he knew how much I loved the show. RIP Adam West.

I had a high school math teacher who looked like Adam West, and we started calling him “Batman” amongst ourselves. The teachers got wind of it, and that teacher eventually dressed as Batman in a school skit.

When my children were small, when they were on our laps we used to hold them by their hands and lower arm and alternate pushing the arms back and forth so their trunks would turn one way or another while singing NaNa NaNa NaNa NaNa NaNa NaNa NaNa NaNa and hang them backwards upsidedown as we then would cry BAT-BABIES!!!
Thank you Batman, for the memories.

Who didn’t watch this show when it was first on in the 60s? Catwoman was the first time I realized that girls were pretty hot after all! I must have been around 8 then.
