Angry Shareholders Feed Live Donkey To Tiger In Chinese Zoo
NPR ^ | 6/7/17 | Camila Domonoske

Posted on 06/07/2017 9:16:37 PM PDT by Timpanagos1

Shareholders in a zoo near Shanghai, frustrated that they weren't making a profit on their investment, fed a live donkey to zoo tigers as a form of protest.

Video of the scene shows the donkey pushed down a makeshift ramp into the water surrounding the tiger habitat, where it is promptly pounced upon. Tigers bite and claw the donkey as it bleeds and struggles in the water. The footage has prompted protest and outrage in China.

In a statement, shareholders who invested in Yancheng Safari Park say they held a meeting and voted in favor of feeding the live donkey to the tigers to express their frustration.

I am way tougher than you, bub, some dude who laughs at animal suffering. Contrary to your stupid comment, this was not a zookeeper feeding food to a tiger, it was a disgustingly cruel action designed to demonstrate the Chinese shareholders’ outrage about no profit.

I did not laugh about an animal suffering, the tiger got fed and you never answered the question about your idea of how the animal should have been killed before it was fed to the tiger. If you are gonna have animals in a zoo, why not let them use their natural skills and instincts to feed themselves. Do you think large aquarium feed their captives with dead fish? No, they do not for the most part, they purchase live food stock fish to feed them, so what is the difference?

Did you not read? It was a protest. It was not a zookeeper feeding. It was meant to be horrifying because the shareholders were furious about not making a profit. So now I have answered your “question” twice.

No, you have not. Would you still feel the same way if they had shot the donkey before they fed him to the tigers? Or are you upset that they did this in the public eye? They actually make documentaries about animals killing and eating other animals, to me it makes no difference if it was a protest or a normal feeding ritual.

From the article:

“Although the incident with the donkey was not sanctioned, zoos in other parts of China regularly feed live animals to tigers for the amusement of the public,” the newspaper writes. “Guests visiting one tiger sanctuary in north-east China’s Heilongjiang province can pay to have a live cow or chicken hurled into the tiger enclosure.”

operative words “to me”. So it is mox nix to you, great. Luckily your sensibilities, such as they are, don’t rule the world.

That’s right, “we” don’t rule the world or the animal kingdom or how China decides how to feed their zoo animals.

They are raised as livestock.
The same can be said of every cow that has been turned into steak.

The emotional value which a pet gains comes from the love a human puts into them. Without that love an animal will remain feral.

On a cheeky note, anyone who actually thinks dogs and cats are innocent has never owned one and at the same time owned a couch.
Or stereo speakers.
Or toilet paper...

Back to serious though, when I was in the third world many the places I went had problems with meeting basic needs for food.

If you have built in your mind some farcical idea that all of this is wealthy people dining on delicacies in some restaurant, discard that fantasy and replace it with reality. Instead lets replace the scene with a farm in Vietnam:

Let us say that there is a drought and that the family hasn't eaten a full meal in days. The family struggles to pull enough water from a manual well to irrigate the garden and keep the livestock alive. Barely.

Lets now say that it is the birthday of a small boy; The farmer's nephew. At the close of the war Mrs. Farmer's brother managed to escape to America, but they had too many children to manage getting out in a “not executed” state with all of the children. The child misses his siblings and his parents, on top of hours of hard labor subsistence farming.

The farmer can't sacrifice one of the remaining cows and the chickens produce more food as laying hens. They eat one of the larger dogs, and the family has a full belly for the first time in days. a brief respite, one of many.

Some years later the boy's parents manage to get him smuggled out of Vietnam and he rejoins them in the United States. I played Warhammer 40K with him in the nineties.

I can't join the people here on their high horses looking down on people in the third world or countries just emerging from the third world for the food they eat. I spent too much time living in Asia and the Pacific Islands in the eighties.

Not even if the food is only kept as a pet here. I know people who keep chickens as pets rather than as livestock. They don't make bad pets, actually. Expect me to still eat chicken.

People are angry? What do they think big cats do in the wild?

You haven’t seen the videos I have I bet. They deliberately torture dogs for hours before killing them...often boiling them alive. They believe the torture makes the meat taste better. Blowtorches and leg amputations while they are hung but still very much alive. I have zero compassion for any human being who can do these things. In some of the videos they laugh as the dogs cry out in pain.

You may want to visit you tube and watch some videos. Start your search with the word “Yulin”.

Watch the videos then make your call. It’s much worse than you think. It is sadism pure and simple and they clearly enjoy it.

They said we’re not buying any more damn dunkeys to feed those tigers until we use up the perfectly good dunkeys we have over in the equine exhibit. And we’ll show you how that’s done.

Or...

How do we save money?

Get rid of the damn dunkey exhibit.

What do we do with the dunkeys?

Feed’em to the tigers, yeah!

Am I the only one who finds the shareholders actions abhorrent and cruel?

On one hand that is the way tigers hunt in the wild.

On the other.... their actions were sick and pointless.

When the sh!t comes down these snowflakes are gonna be the first to go. When they see bodies stacked like cordwood in the streets, will they still maintain their effete attitudes toward lower animals?
