Schieffer bewildered his audience by suggesting, There are many parallels to Watergate. But I have to tell you, I think all the way back to the Kennedy assassination, to draw parallels. The veteran journalist stretched, I was there, as you know. I have always felt that if Lee Harvey Oswald had been put on trial, a lot of these conspiracy theories that are still circulating today would have been put at rest then.
One can sort of see what Schieffer was aiming for, in relation to dispelling conspiracies about the Russian investigation, but its still a bizarre comparison to make.

Where? On the grassy knoll?
So resistance is taking a new form? Is he trying to plant the assassination seed?
I think the *****FBI***** should investigate this threat.
WTF? LOL. I took a dump this morning and reminded me of Trump firing Comey, too.
James Comey has not forgotten where he was at when he got word he was fired....
A fellow tends to keep things like that pretty clear in his mind.
This firing has really been a lot more like Truman firing General MacArthur, for daring to suggest that we challenge the Chinese Communists directly. The President has to show just who Da Boss is from time to time.
His remarks remind me of the jocks at the high school reunion. That was the highlight of their lives and haven’t let go. The Al Bundy 3 touchdowns in 1 game syndrome.
Old Bobby Boy didn’t opine like this when Bill Clinton fired Sessions, nor when Billy Jeff fired all 94 AGe.

AGs admit.

“I was there, as you know.”
Somehow this gives him special insight to the crime. But, at least he can prove he was there: Just ask Brian Williams.
Hey Boob Shieffer, when you wake up from your liberal fantasies tomorrow morning, Trump will still rule the White House.
Whatever thought process takes place in the minds of these journalists as they formulate their methods of disinformation, I must say the only certainty about the whole thing is they’re using the wrong ultimate guidebook.
... Ted Baxter meets Baghdad Bob
Everyone knows Ted Cruz’s dad had nothing to do with the Comey firing.
What is Fake News
Any 'So called News' article citing anonymous sources, no sources, or liberal feelings posing as news, or old Fake News like the Russians did/hacked it. The poster must announce that fact/reality in the articles title, and then, note this is fake news in their first sentence after the fake news title.
Maybe the above could become standard with Free Republic. This would eliminate any financial or sadistical incentives to post fake news on FR as a bot, a paid troll, a concerned troll, or one who likes to torture Freepers with fake news.
We could have a daily or weekly contest for the Best, aka, Worst Fake News posting in these categories:
1. Old Fake News. 2. Current Fake News 3. Breaking Fake News. 4. Any combination of 1, 2, or 3 or all of them.
It's more than a stretch ... it's asinine. But apparently these are the "big news" events they remember well, and now they pine for something similar to get the old juices running.
I myself am old enough to remember the JFK assassination. If there's anything in that ancient history that might bear comparison with today, it's corruption of at least some segments of the intelligence community ... including the FBI.
Brokaw said it was NOT like Watergate.
I remembered when he was reporting on Bob Dole’s presidential campaign. The disdain and hate in his voice was palpable.
My mistake. Nevertheless, a lot of people are talking about Watergate and a lot of journalists seem to be looking into the past and sort of saying, “Let me tell what happened in the old days ...”
But you are correct, I was wrong to combine these traits in Brokaw: he talked about the old days, yes, but he did say it was different this time. Schieffer ... not so much.
Bob had the same drinking pattern in the mid 1960's to the 1970's when we lived in the DC area. He knew all of the bartenders and drink servers at the Madison Hotel in DC, by their first name.
