Your regular home owners or renters insurance might cover them.
I solve that problem by buying cheap phones. You can do 90% as well with a $100 phone, that you can with a $500 phone. I just bought my wife a nice one for $50. Does everything she needs, much better than the 2 year old phone she had before that cost 300
Can’t help you with any independent providers. I’ve had mine covered through Verizon Wireless for several years now.
The mo-rons I work for transitioned from Windows phones to iPhones. That wasn’t the moronic part - when they did they went from basically a free device (plus data & voice plan) to a $500 device (plus data & voice plan). Still not mo-ronic....when they moved to the expensive phones they didn’t purchase the protection program.
These are pretty little gizmos but they are fragile as all get-out and the (damage) fail rate is eating us alive.
Don’t be a mo-ron - get the insurance!
I protect my electronics with protective skins from Decalgirl or Skinnit. Then a screen protector and several cases. I like a rubber or rubberlike case for day use and a wallet case for if I make a shopping trip to the city.
Get insurance that covers replacement for maybe two years. After two years if you still like that model you can get a used or refurbished one cheaper than maintaining the policy.
The biggest thing I have done to protect my phones and electronic book readers is to invest in an entire wardrobe of fishing guide shirts to carry my devices at chest height. They never get banged or bumped or squeezed. That may not be an option depending on dress codes with your employer.
I admit to being more absent minded than the average person, still cell phone insurance is a great idea for anyone. Through water damage and loss, I probably have had half a dozen expensive smart phones replaced over the last few years. I think I pay Verizon an extra $10 per month for the insurance. The must be losing money on me, but, even so, the premiums have never gone up.
Spend the money and get an OtterBox Defender series case. I ran an I-Phone over with a forklift in one of those cases. Destroyed the case but the phone was unscathed.
Handle it as if it were a butterfly that cost you $20,000 to own.
2. Loss of cell phone.
Make SURE that you always have it with you or know it is within reach.
3. Theft of cell phone.
See #2.
I had stuff stolen out of my car and my homeowners insurance covered it. And I had full replacement cost.
IMHO the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the Best refurbished phone for less than $119. (Replaceable $9 LiIon 2800 maH batteries, water resistant, SOLID operation)
Screw the insurance with its $9/mo payments and $100+ deductible.
Get a refurbished S5 phone, synch device to device backups regularly and use refurbished phone for high damage risk applications, ie: water trips / taking pictures from ski lifts, etc. ;n)

It’s always cheaper to take the risk and not buy insurance.
Since I turned down the insurance on the wheels of the first lease, I saved whatever monies that may be needed if one of the rims on this new car goes out.......
Bottom line, you're wasting your money on insurance on a smart phone. Just take care of the damn thing.........
In most cases, by the time you lose or break your phone there will be newer models available, enabling you to replace your lost or broken phone for a new one off Ebay for a fraction of the original price. Cell phone insurance is a waste of money IMHO.
“I don’t dare use these cell phones until AFTER the glass screen protectors arrive.”
I’ve never used those screen protectors, and my screens have held up VERY well without getting scratched. The material the screens are made of these days is very tough stuff! I know, because I’m pretty tough on my phones. The one thing the screens seem to be defenseless against are sparks of molten metal landing on them while welding or grinding steel. Yes, I know this from experience...
They aren’t that fragile, I use a case and screen protector to keep them from getting marred but I have carried naked phones in the past, they get ugly but survived.
If you get insurance from the carrier, you will pay through the nose. I think there are some non-carrier insurance options for less but never used one of them, google should lead you to them and reviews about their services.
Hope you like your phone, I just about bought the S7 when it was on sale but ended up getting a mid ranger with a really big battery.
Check the credit card agreement, you may already be insured.
I have had insurance on my phones. They are used for work. Twice I’ve had to have phones replaced. Once due to a linebacker running into me. The second is when it fell off my motorcycle on an interstate.
Sure the deductible is high, but they replaced them both the next day and had them shipped to my hotel.
If you are clumsy or you are working in unusual locations, it is worth it.
For an iPhone, I’d just buy AppleCare.
A friend had the insurance sold by Verizon. The deducible on this plan was equal to the screen replacement cost.
If you have T-Mobile, they just came out with a new coverage plan you may want to look into.
