Spend the money and get an OtterBox Defender series case. I ran an I-Phone over with a forklift in one of those cases. Destroyed the case but the phone was unscathed.

My first purchase after I got my iPhone was an otterBox ... last week, out of nowhere, there was moisture inside the case, on my phone and I could not use certain functions on the phone or keyboard ... total panic. I ran, ok, drove to the nearby Verizon Wireless store where the tech fixed it in about 10 seconds, but he did point out that even with the Otterbox, there are those small holes that can allow moisture in.
