PHILADELPHIA (CBS) Got a few aches and pains? Before you head to the medicine cabinet and reach for those over-the-counter painkillers, consider drinking a few beers.
A new study, led by Dr. Trevor Thompson from the University of Greenwich, and published in The Journal of Pain, suggests that throwing back a few cold ones actually relieves your pain better than Tylenol.
The study, reported by Lifehacker, found that raising your blood alcohol content to the legal limit of .08%, or about three or four beers deep, elevates your pain threshold significantly. The research involved 18 studies and more than 400 participants. It looked at the effect of different dosages of alcohol on subject pain response.

Scotch heals better than beer, I always feel better in the evening,
*** “Tylenol works great for the morning after headache” ***
Back in my Oil Rig days there was a big ol Roughneck (tough as nails) that applied that technique and he went home in a plastic bag. Some said Liver failure some said Kidney failure, I don’t know I just watched him leave double wrapped.
I think 3 or 4 beers contain more calories than 2 acetaminophen.
He’s 21 so he’s almost always eating. :-) Me, not so much. I call it quits after 2 drinks anyway. Well, usually!
I’ve had two teeth pulled in my life, one a wisdom tooth that was hard to get out. I had learned from back injury that beer is much better than pain pills, so after the dentist I just pitch the pills he prescribes, and buy a six-pack.
I’ve never experienced pain from any dental procedure.
My two oldest sons are 23 and 20. If we had a talking parrot, it would say, "Is there any more food around here?!?"
Acetaminophen overdose sends as many as 78,000 Americans to the emergency room annually and results in 33,000 hospitalizations a year, federal data shows. Acetaminophen is also the nations leading cause of acute liver failure, according to data from an ongoing study funded by the National Institutes for Health.
My experience as well.
People will be asking to have the beer painkiller in their IVs at the hospitals now.
I’ve had two neck fusions, right side shoulder surgery, and surgery to reconnect all four tendons in my right hand. Currently, I’m in rehab for my left shoulder. Complete separation of the rotator cuff tendon and the biceps tendon. Bone spurs and arthritis. I’m eight weeks into my recovery and I’ve had two opioid painkillers. I’ve found Knob Creek bourbon is much more effective than the opioids.
Duh
Probably around the same, and let’s you sleep easier.
Both can destroy your liver, so pick the one that actually works............BEER!
How does one stop at three or four beers?
Get somebody who's not having any to keep count.
The other day I was so desperate for a beer I snuck into the football stadium and ate the dirt under the bleachers.
Well of course, alcohol is an anesthetic
When I was in college, I could drink a lot, have a hangover, but it was always gone by about 2 pm. Now I have more than 2 glasses of wine- ruins me for the whole next day. More than that, I’m feeling bad for 2 days. Youth has an effect on hangovers in my opinion.
