One Laptop has dead battery, so running with an adapter only. I use the other Laptop for most of my work & browsing, it has an old battery so I keep the adapter plugged in. This one with battery was the slower of the two. Now both are running much faster.

CLEAN THE HEAT SINKS!!!

Inside the laptop there’s usually fans blowing air through a set of fins, over time they can get clogged with dust, reducing air flow and causing temperatures to rise. When this happens the CPU speed gets throttled down dramatically to not damage the CPU due to overheating.

If you hear your laptop fan always at high speeds then this is a likely cause.

When you upgrade to Windows 10, the older and exiting version remains on your computer, and if I recall correctly, you cab boot up with the older version.

Better way is to do a fresh Windows 7 re-install using your original CD or bootable USB. I created a bootable USB with WIndows 7 since the Acer Laptop does not gave a CD drive.

My Laptop is actually a notebook, and I do not hear any fan. I do not think there is fan inside this very small machine.

I have a Dell laptop and the battery is good with a 100% charge. Don’t use the battery very often. When I go through the procedure you describe the battery icon/monitor disappears from the task bar.

Then when I go back and “Enable” the same component in the Device Manager, the battery icon is back in the task bar.

I believe that Disables and Enables the driver which keeps the battery charged, and probably it monitors the battery. Since I used my battery so seldom, I’ll experiment with this and see if it speeds up the computer, and also if it affects the battery by being disabled for periods of time.

Best luck? That’s it?? No description of what exactly that does?

That is not instruction sufficient to be trusted.

Also, you need to replace the thermal paste between the heat sink and CPU every year or two. The paste hardens and cracks, reducing heat transfer (cooling) between the CPU and heat sink.
