United Airlines Will Reimburse Passengers on Flight Where Man Was Dragged Off

United Airlines says it will compensate the cost of tickets for every passenger on Flight 3411, where a man was forcibly removed and dragged earlier this week, according to CNBC.

The news follows a second statement from United CEO Oscar Munoz, in which he said that "no one should ever be mistreated this way" — a pivot from his Monday statement. In the latter, Munoz said the passenger was "disruptive and belligerent."

United has been in hot water since the video first emerged on Sunday, with outraged social media users calling for a boycott and leaving the airline 1-star ratings on Yelp.

Agree. Great post.

CEO Munuz’ resignation is the FIRST step in repairing this PR nightmare.

A complete company culture overhaul is second.

Offering reimbursements to the entire flight....who GOT to stay in their seats/make flight....is just another absurd decision.

Legal experts I have heard state that since the man was already seated inside the plane, united had no right to have him removed from the plane, and he was removed illegally. They say it would’v

Exactly so. This was TERRIBLE planning on the part of local UA management. Had they expended the effort of better managing their flights, they would have known there was going to be 4 seats needed on an OVERBOOKED flight, and done this BEFORE seating the passengers.

Attempting this "we need 4 volunteers" AFTER the passengers were already on the plane was an "OH DAMN WE #$@*ED UP" moment on United's part. Then, when no one took their lousy bait, it was a series of cascade failures for them, which led to United calling in the feral rent-a-cops.

But United is a HORRIBLY managed airline, so this is really no surprise. A management accident waiting to happen.

UA is big in China. Wait till it settles down in China before you put any money on it.

The guy is,at the very least,an absolute whackjob and,I strongly suspect,is a first class piece of filth.

We have every bit as much evidence that this is true of you, as we have evidence of such things regarding the Doctor.

What causes your assertions?

The CA informs the pilot who would come out and assess the situation then call if necessary, thems the rules. In this case none of them seemed to have been followed. Still do not know the full story.

(off to Denver)

Hopefully Munoz’s clumsy efforts will fail.

He is a clown—the Board of Directors needs to slip out of their clown suits and dump the guy stat.

Was on a United Flight a few years back.

Received a cell phone call just as I putting my luggage into the overhead.

Turns out may father had had a heart attack was in the emergency room.

While I was waiting to find out if my father was still alive, a very belligerent United flight attendant came up and ordered me to shut the phone off.

I explained to her the situation and she became even more belligerent and ordered me to turn the phone off or she would call security and have me arrested.

After about another 30 seconds, she informed me she was leaving the plane to get Sky Marshals to have me pulled off the plane and arrested so I shut the phone down

People were still boarding the plane and the captain had not even fired up the engines.

We sat at the gate for another half hour .

I had to wait until we landed 6 hrs to find out my father had died.

This attitude towards passengers seems to be a United Airlines corporate culture thing , which is too bad because United used to be a great airline back in the day

The whole TSA airport security system is really a disaster that needs to reformed .

The war on terror would be won in less than a year if every American was forced to suffer through airport security on a weekly basis - using nuclear weapons if necessary.

Any breach of contract $$ will be small if any at all...it’s the “pain & suffering”/”loss of income”, etc., etc. that could go big. If he gets a jury trial date, look for United to settle for a large sum. He has engaged a big Chicago firm to represent him.

I refuse to fly if I can get a way with it. Just talked to my sister. She laughed saying she told her husband, “Well, I guess she's (me) never going to fly again.” I offered to fly them from Ft. Lauderdale to Chicago at their risk. ; )

Likewise, the cops are not targets since the passenger refused to comply with lawful orders.

Don't bet on it. One cop was put on leave pending investigation. The Chicago Dept of Aviation spokesperson already distanced the agency from their behavior. I'd be lawyering up.

Well, United already has multi- gender toilets on their planes, so there isn’t much that the Target CEO could screw up there.

It would be interesting to see what kind of problems Munoz could cause at the retailer.
