A Northern Kentucky University student is accused of duping her parents and sorority sisters into thinking she had stage 3 stomach cancer, as police investigate what happened to the thousands of dollars raised in her name. Kelly Schmahl, 20, allegedly pretended to be ill from June 2016 through March 2017, Fox 19 reported.
Our daughter is a caring, loving yet troubled young woman who is currently undergoing treatment for issues that precipitated this pretense and the results of it, the statement said. Like others in the community, we, too, believed our daughter was seriously ill with cancer, and we are all searching for answers as to why she would participate in this deception.

Just sad
Indeed, most of us look a little different than we did 30 years ago.
I have known several women going through chemotherapy, including some very close friends. None looked that good, nor did their baldness look that neat. She looks like a healthy and rather cute actress playing a cancer patient.
When someone can write the 'N'-word on a receipt and parlay it into tens of thousands of donated dollars on a GoFundMe account, it's only a matter of time before others start thinking, "That looked so easy! I wonder what scam I can come up?"
That is some dopey parents issuing a statement written by their lawyer.
Do you suspect they were in on the scam?!
Somehow, she must be turned into a victim. It won’t be easy, but it must be done. In 2017 America, to establish your status as a victim is have all your sins forgiven.
Schmahl time crook.
She probably could have made more as an escort.
Since the eye color in the two pictures is different, she must have spent some money on tinted contacts.
Not really, but its a cya move to protect themselves from the others who got scammed out of their money.
I see.
That woman needs professional help.
I too have known a few people with cancer who went through chemo. Most shave their heads to avoid it falling out in “clumps” as that is distressing. The part that gives her away is the close up picture. Chemo makes all your hair fall out and I mean ALL. One chick on chemo had no eye lashes and eye brows and did not pencil them in nor use false eye lashes, in my opinion she looked like an alien from the X-Files just creepy. The chick in this picture has her lashes and brows.
Agreed...as I said, that person needs help. That person has some things inside her head twisted around.
Agreed. Also, this one looks healthy, with a nice complexion. The skin on someone going through chemo never looks that good, not even with makeup. She was fooling people who have never seen the real thing and people at a distance. This one looks more like Demi Moore with the GI Jane crew-cut than like someone who is actually sick.
It Always gets me with these fakers. When cancer patients lose our hair, there’s no stubble. We look like Telly Savales.
Yep. Didn’t they want to meet with the doctors? Go during a ‘chemo session’. I would have insisted.
Never mind, I misread your post.
But my reply is still interesting as heck!
