The population of Denver has been steadily growing over the past few years, but not enough of its new inhabitants want to work in the restaurant industry.
The reason? The higher-paying jobs are in weed, man.
New eateries are popping up all over Denver to meet the increased demand of residents and tourists, but restaurant owners claim theyre having a hard time filling their kitchens with able-bodied workers, Bloomberg reports.
Our work force is being drained by the pot industry, Denver restaurateur Bryan Dayton told the site.
Enter the weed business, which pays $22 an hour with full benefits, added Dayton. You can come work in a kitchen for (me) for eight hours a day, in a hot kitchen. Its a stressful life. Or you can go sort weed in a climate-controlled greenhouse. Its a pretty obvious choice.
So why dont restaurant owners just pay a little more? Quite simply, the marijuana industry can generally afford to pay workers at various levels much higher wages, they argue.

Unintended consequences for passing a stupid law. It will probably be the same thing here in USSR-WA. Then even less people will be hired for another stupid law - the minimum wage.

The problem is these jobs produce nothing of real value to society.

Pleas note the source.
Northern Colorado has had high employment rates even in spite of Barry. Street drugs are much cheaper than government taxed and are outselling Governor Chickenpooper’s stores.

Labor, just like soybeans, crude oil and pork bellies are commodities. Commodities tend to follow the laws of supply and demand.
This restaurant owner should know that.

Speaking, from personal experience, in Denver restaurants the behavior of customers is becoming ever more bizarre.
Attributable in my opinion to pot.
These incidents both occurred in the LO-Do (lower downtown) upscale restaurant area of the city ...
Won't go into the details ... however, I've had the pleasure to have dined in some of the more upscale eateries across this country.
The Denver restaurant scene is getting progressively more weird ... no question.

Look, Americans have voted with their feet and their wallet - weed is here to stay, just like that gin & tonic you probably swill down ever nigh while you drunkenly bitch about stoners. Many of the founding fathers smoked hemp and if it was ok with them, it is ok with me. And you know what, if it wasn’t, too bad, America hasn’t bought into marijuana prohibition so it is a dead-letter no-matter-what.

I think legalizing dope is a Really Bad Idea - but if you need more workers - pay higher wages.
