The First Christian Martyr, and one of the first seven Deacons of the Early Christian Church. A true hero with the heart of a scholar and servant.(ACTS 6-8)
And one of my favorite Dead tunes.

Love that too.
I was driving to a gig when I heard on the radio that Jerry Garcia had passed away. I slipped “Ripple” and “Uncle John’s Band” into the program, which was in a NURSING HOME!
Several frail, elderly folks came up to me after the concert to tell me how much the LOVED those two songs, and wanted to know where they came from. (They were sandwiched into a program of “The Great American Songbook” which featured well-known tunes by Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin)
So, they stood up to some STIFF competition!

Hey you ever heard of a mini bass?
My old elderly friend is a professional upright bass player but he cannot hammer down the strings like he used to and we want to get him a mini bass

Of course, I am sure that you know that The Dead were originally a Bluegrass Band. Perhaps that may be the reason that their music resonated so well with the elderly people who had never heard them before, and had no real “Rock” background. Especially “Ripple” which sounds like a Folk-song or hymn.
Just a theory.
As far as a mini-bass is concerned, I can understand why the standard sized stand-up bass would be a problem. (I play electric). I believe there is a stand-up that is slightly smaller and more manageable, but not by much.
