All lanes on I-85 are blocked due to heavy black smoke from a massive fire, officials said.

Thanks. Homeless campground and a substantial fuel source.
I left Chatsworth at 2:15 today. I got home in Orange County at 4:50. It’s 54 miles. Los Angeles traffic has gotten far worse since Gov. Brown allowed illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.
Here we have an interstate span felled by burning PVC pipe.
I’ve been by there many times traveling, and it doesn’t appear to be a homeless campground, those are more in the downtown area. This section is 85 SB/NB on Pidemont and Buford Connector, very loud area.

“Looks as if heat from the fire caused bridge support to melt / collapse.”
Somebody call Rosie O’Donnell.
coal railcars, a locomotive, chemical car, oil tank railcar....
Okay, new safety rule: DON’T PUT HAZARDOUS MATERIALS UNDER CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE.
Well, here’s something for Trump to spend money on.
may not have burned. heat may have cracked and exploded the concrete.
Some idiots driving through the fire....

And yeah, not a good idea to put hazardous materials there.
Night all. Off to plan a different commute for tomorrow. Traffic is going to be awful.
Thanks. I saw the area on street view before your post. Lots of fuel there. It will be interesting to see how the fire started.
Good luck!
The plastic gives lots of fuel....and some of those chemicals burn hit enough and long enough to create havoc
Good luck!
I have long said the engineers who designed the expressways in metro-Atlanta have a collective IQ of 10.
And there is that too.....
Thanks! Hopefully the South Bound section isn’t as damaged and can be used, but I’m sure that will be closed through the weekend.
Think I’m just gonna work from home or take a day tomorrow. No need to get out in that mess until Monday, now that I think about it.
You all have a great weekend.
Ahem . . . minority Smoke . . . or perhaps economically challenged smoke. . . or better yet ecological atmospheric hazard area
In case you all want to see more pics/videos.
This is the WSB traffic guy and on-air dude!
My question is this. How in the heck didn’t anyone report the smoke earlier? If it’s PVC piping it doesn’t just erupt in one quick event. What triggered this immediate blaze? There would have been firefighters on scene far earlier than when it was fully engulfed don’t you think? What are your thoughts.
...and deserved every penny of it!
