The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), where Klaatu announces to the assembled scientists that the nations of Earth must learn to be peaceable, or else a peaceable interplanetary organization will kill every living creature on Earth and destroy the planet.

2001 A Space Odyssey - The Aliens at the end decide to play Acid Trip Mind games for 2+ hours.

Contact - Another ending where the aliens decide to play Acid Trip mind games. Plus Uuuummmm why have hearings and argue about if what she experienced was real or not, just run the dam thing again and see if the same thing happens!!! And No You can’t fake a signal from Vega, didn’t you ever hear of Triangulation?

Close Encounters of the Third Kind: Yep, Aliens at the end deciding to play Acid Trip Mind games once again!!!

Return of the Jedi: No acid trip mind games yeah, but booo the Ewoks. Plus the Emperor who is suppose to be slick didn’t really make a case for why you would want to join the dark side. “You don’t know the Power of the Dark Side”, well OK, but what else??

If you want a genuinely infuriating ending, watch the Franklin Boys Town Scandal documentary.

Now there’s an ending that needs to be rewritten, if ever there was one.

No Country for Old Men. I really liked the movie. (YES, THE ALL-TIME BEST, MOST INTIMIDATING VILLAIN EVER!)

But, geeze Louise, the ending(s) was exhausting. It ended like what, 3 times?

The best thing about this thread is that I saw hardly any of the movies that people are complaining about. LOL.

The "talkie" version of The Wizard of Oz, from 1939, concludes by portraying the whole story as being merely a dream--an utterly lame cop-out that I have found infuriating since I saw the movie for the first time on a black-and-white television in 1959.

The ending of ‘’Old Yeller’’ will scar a kid for life.

A Perfect Mind.

But to be fair, the entire movie stunk!

I can’t imagine that a “fan” hated the ending of the Fellowship of the Ring... unless they had (or needed) a hip replacement surgery. OK, Post 8 minutes before the end, “You can leave if you want to.” But those who love Middle Earth can stick around to dwell in the world so bitterly fought over for the previous... uh, ten hours.

Worse Star Wars ending: Return of the Jedi. I think the ewoks get a bad rap. Jar Jar Binks sucks for several reasons: (1) he appears completely unnecessary throughout the entire first movie. (2) He is shoe-horned into just about every scene. (3) He is patently ridiculous: why say “mee-sah” instead of just “I” or even “me?”, why the Jamaican vibe?

The ewoks have none of these problems. They are remembered as cutesy teddy bears, thanks to the plush toys, but they were nasty, fearsome, cannibalistic warriors, central to the plot, sparingly used, and with a meticulously developed society.

No, the problem with the end of Return of the Jedi was that the battle action was simply a do-over of A New Hope.

“I am Legend” DID tease with the notion that Will Smith’s character was the real monster; it simply avoided the black and white of declaring that he was. Besides, this is pulled punch is even more notable in the original Total Recall, but it gets none of the hate. Although, “Nah, it didn’t happen” is no way near as fun as “you’re the real monster!”

I’m going to even have to put “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” up there. The ending was so abrupt.

The ending of “Das Boot” always ticked me off. The real U-96 made it all the way to 1945 (though, as per the movie, it was bombed while in port), and the captain, exec and chief engineer all survived the war.

I think they could have made a much more powerful (and not hackneyed) ending with the war correspondent asking the captain “when does all this end”, and the captain’s tersely answering “when one day we don’t come back” and walking away.

Matrix Revolutions? What was supposed to happen? Stupid.

Return of the King? If they had followed the book it would have been a four plus hour movie. Again, stupid.

I will add one, Hannibal. Ending should have followed the book in this case. It changed everything and not for the better.
