The other days I got the munchies for peanut butter so I put some on bread and enjoyed it. I also like peanut butter in ice cream as well as cookies. Also I like peanut butter shakes. Okay, by now you guessed it...I like peanut butter. And I'm sure most of you do too.
So my big question is why does most of the rest of the world HATE peanut butter while it is very popular with North Americans (Americans and Canadians)? I read that peanut butter is so hated by most of the rest of the world that once some aid organization sent crackers and peanut butter to some starving nation and the folks rejected it.
There has to be a reason why North Americans love peanut butter while most of the rest of the world hates the stuff.
It’s called one trial learning. The food aversion can last for years or even a lifetime.
Only a communist hates peanut butter...

There’s a well known test to find out who’s an alien from outer-space.
Chocolate, pizza and peanut butter. If the person being tested wont eat any one of those three items, it’s an alien.
Your comment also backs up a long held theory that commiescum are actually aliens posing as humans.
I like to drizzle pure high quality honey right into the jar then spoon out some crunchy peanut butter with a bit of honey on it. Satisfies my sweet tooth when it screams for something sweet. A little goes a long way.
In Thailand, I used to eat 2 bowls of noodles almost every day for lunch. I put in hot pepper in vinegar and a couple heaping tablespoons of finely crushed peanuts.
My wife makes a dipping sauce with soy sauce, vinegar, crushed peanuts, hot pepper and green onions/shallots. Very good.
Because they are all racist.
Peanut butter was invented and popularized in this country by George Washington Carver. A fact I learned in grade school in the 50s.
Kellogg was known for ripping off the work of many others and being a snake-oil doctor. He might have helped to popularize it, but I doubt it.
If they don't like that, they are not American.
When I lived in Europe they just thought it was weird. Like marmite or poi or whatever, it’s just a cultural habit. I love it.
Wow...never heard from a nut snob before. If hazelnuts are superior, why are they always the last nuts left in the jar of mixed nuts?
Sprinkle some sugar on it before you close it and you’ll love it even more.
Because the people you hang out with don’t know nuts. Every mixed nut jar I see everybody knows the peanuts are filler and avoids them until the end.
Massaman Curry uses peanut butter and whole peanuts. As you say, Thai cooking. Satay sauce, pad Thai use peanut butter. Whole peanuts in stir fry.
Is there a particular hazelnut varietal I should seek out?
If you’ve had them and don’t like them my recommendation is to move on. Really, they’re just nuts, not that big a thing.
Australia and Vegamite!?!

What a Great Flash back !
When my mother arrived to the States as a young war bride, my father’s family decided to throw her a good old American BBQ. After the car dropped them off, my parents walked into the backyard where everyone was munching on corn on the cob.
Pig food, according to my mother’s way of seeing things.
It colored her perception of her in laws for years.
I agree. De gustibus non est disputandem.
My go to is Peanut Butter & Co.’s Dark Chocolate Dreams. Fabulous on organic apple slices. I’m hooked.
I eat peanut butter on toast for breakfast sometimes. It’s good for you.
