ANCHORAGE, Alaska Anna McConnaughy was flying to Alaska's largest city when the announcement came over the intercom: a passenger on a previous flight had brought a pet snake on board.
The passenger had gotten off the plane. The snake had not.
"The pilot came, and said, 'Guys, we have some loose snake on the plane, but we don't know where it is,'" McConnaughy said Tuesday.
Unlike the movie "Snakes On A Plane," this one wasn't venomous. Mostly, it was sleepy.
A little boy, one of seven passengers on the Ravn Alaska commuter flight Sunday from the Alaska village of Aniak to Anchorage, was climbing on his seat when he spotted the slumbering snake. It was lying partially covered by a duffel bag near the back of the plane.
"He said, 'Oh, Mom, look at this. What's that?'" McConnaughy said. "That's how we figured out there was a snake sleeping in the corner."
There was no panic. McConnaughy said. Mostly people wanted to see the snake.

“Best. Dance. Ever.”
It rates pretty high on my scale, too. Probably for different reasons, however.
No, but my Odin is Lord Of The Frogs..
I may be a heterosexual female but I’m not blind.
I thought it was pretty hot, too.
:D
Just... DANG!
Yeah, that was a good scene.
“From Dusk ‘til Dawn,” a scary vampire flick.
Dang, nuthin;.
Go find that video on YouTube.
Double dang.
Okay, just for that... Gimme a week or so to find a(nother) great snake thread to draw lots of visitors, and I'll use it to announce the birth of the FR Snake and Reptile Ping List. Think about FReepers whom you know might be interested and we'll give 'em a heads up.
You DO realize you have to be the Resident Herpetologist, right?
Every time “pussy hats” are mentioned, I think of Cheech Marin’s character, “Chet” and his....”soliloquy”?.
Oh, no way.
There are some on here, to whom I bow in humility.
Okay, fair enough. Request still stands for suggestions of FReepers who might be interested.
And if you see an interesting article that would make a good launch thread, let me know.
Heading for the shadows now, gotta get up and go to work in too few hours.
Will do.
Fundamentally wrong? No, they can bite. Unlucky? No, it is expected to be bitten. It happens for one of two reasons: fear or startlement, or feed response. Either way, it is No Big Deal. More blood, more pain playing with the cats.
Don’t focus on the word ‘python’. Rather, the entire name, which describes the animal, then check it out. You’d find that a Ball python doesn’t get near big enough to consider me as food.
Only 5
:)
Salamander messaged me and asked if I would be willing to help on your list. Sure, I can do that. I’m a keeper of snakes and work with them on a daily basis. Everything from common garter snakes to reticulated pythons. I don’t keep much in the venomous area but I have worked with them and I rescue wild snakes frequently.
How much experience do you have being bitten by snakes?
I've been bitten by everything from garter snakes to king snakes, to ball pythons, to common boas, to rainbow boas, to reticulated pythons. I'll take a hit from a snake before I would willingly take a hit from a dog.
Five is a good start.
There’s a joke in the snake forums, no one ever has “one snake”.
It’s one snake, then five and the next thing you know, you have 18 snakes.
[I have exceeded my joke quota, already]
Dayglo, here is your Herp Guru.
