Kong: Skull Island (age 12+) Verdict: A gigantic disappointment Rating: two stars out of a possible five
More than eight decades have passed since former Daily Mail war correspondent Edgar Wallace created King Kong, but still the giant ape exerts a fierce grip on the collective imagination. What a shame, then, that Kong: Skull Island is so feebly plotted and scripted, monkeying around with the story and, in the biggest misjudgment of all, revealing Kong in all his hairy majesty even before the opening credits.
What a disappointing film this is. There are deliberate echoes of Jurassic Park, but they ring terribly hollow. There's scarcely any tension, no exciting narrative thrust and rather painfully strained attempts at humour, even by the always excellent John C. Reilly whose character I won't divulge, just in case you really don't have anything better to do on Sunday afternoon. But I hope you do. In fact, you could fare a lot worse than staying at home and watching the DVD of The Hobbit director Peter Jackson's 2005 remake of King Kong. It is superior in every way.

Maybe if they go to Candy Apple Island, I’ll watch.
Well, at least it made for a fun, if brief, virtual ride at Universal Orlando.
The movie was (set) in a remote island.
There is some pretty absurd settings about how the island survived a long time without being discovered.
But you really need to know, the scenery is very good.
Don’t think too much, but just enjoy.
She is playing “Beautiful Dreamer”.
Actually, this is the SEQUEL to the stupid remake (the remake was 2005's King Kong, directed by Peter Jackson)
This is basically the 21st century equivilent to 1986's King Kong Lives (which was a sequel to the stupid remake from 1976, King Kong)
Is that Jessica Lange? She almost killed her career by acting in one of these Monkey Movies. Jessica is due to star with Susan Sarandon in a remake of ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane”. I liked the first one with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis and tubby giant Victor Hugo.
No $ from me to SL Jackson.
I’m just saying.
Very interesting scenery. I very much liked this movie.
"King Kong Escapes", anyone? Anyone?
Wait—so it was better than King vs. Godzilla?!! I’m not sure how that is even possible.

To each, their own.
I’m keeping my money and putting it to actual GOOD use.
I’ll just say.
King Kong is not the bad guy in this film.
Not terribly surprising. The film was largely about making a long series of believable video clips with spectacular scenery, and a (bunch) of creepy monsters.
I say go. I really liked it.
I own this film on dvd. One of the best lines from the film, the girl is swimming in the lagoon and Kong is acting frisky, she says,
“KONG! Don’t hurt the ship — ITS WHERE WE SLEEP AND LIVE!”
I don’t know art, as they say, but I know what I like.
ALMOST as good as Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.
Yeah, I thought Jackson’s Kong had its moments (few and far between) but mostly just over-the-top CGI.
It’s not a remake if that film, it’s a mini series about the making of it. The rivalry between the two, etc. Seen the first episode. It was pretty good.
MechaKong should have won an Oscar for that performance.

From what you have said here and the little I have seen about it the premise sounds pretty cool I have to say.
Certainly a movie critic not digging a giant monster movie is not going to stop me. I mean come on.
Freegards
This is out for a very limited time, and it's probably 1000000000x better
80% fresh on rotten tomatoes
