When my Dad came home from Korea in 1952, we drove across country to his next station, in San Francisco, stopping in Abilene to visit Eisenhower's home.
I have an old photo they took of it then.
My grandmother's family in Abilene knew the Eisenhowers well, they were originally from the same Pennsylvania Dutch Mennonite denomination.

Nothing more than it happens to be near and dear to our correspondent from 160 years ago, George Templeton Strong. Although I guess one could say the recent involvement of Thurlow Weed is another connection. He will play a role in our drama as time goes on.
