Owning a cat won't make you mentally ill, study says
Although you may hold suspicions about your neighbor who feeds the local stray cats, new research has found no link between owning a feline and exhibiting psychotic symptoms. The University College London findings cast doubt on previous research, which suggested that people who grew up with cats are at a higher risk of mental illness.
The message for cat owners is clear: there is no evidence that cats pose a risk to childrens mental health, Dr. Francesca Solmi, the studys lead author, said in a news release. In our study, initial unadjusted analyses suggested a small link between cat ownership and psychotic symptoms at age 13, but this turned out to be due to other factors.

Yeah. Until you’re ambushed by one of them.
There’s something they spray out in their piss. It makes you slowly go insane.
Pets enhance the quality of my life immensely for many, cats certainly have for me.
Cats can cause computers to do down. This is photographic evidence of a cat causing a computer malfunction.
As a dog lover and total cat hater, I agree...
...you have to be mentally ill already to get a cat.
Agree. If you are also a LIB, your situation is beyond lunacy.
Where did they get the money to waste on this nonsense?
I’m on my third Calico, as I descend ever-deeper into insanity....
I love them too. I have one.
I have 2 tortie-and-whites. The above computer glitcher is my Maine Coon Bijou. Then, there's the little rescue imp Zizu, using my mouse as a pillow:
Not a cause but a symptom? ;-P
(Uh oh - we have 2...)
I love Maine Coons. My best friend had 2; Crockett and Lenny. Unfortunately, they crossed the rainbow bridge quite a while ago. I still miss them.

Look in your wallet.

Sounds like standard AMA fake news.

Dogs have owners.
Cats have staff.
My cats drive me crazy! They expect me to open doors for them hundreds of times a day, in and out like children. They expect me to wait on them hand and foot in every way of course. They also constantly remind me that I am not taking care of them up to their standard and am much to slow in responding to their needs. I love my kitties though and I guess when they get me properly trained it will get better.
Oh I have a tortoise and white, she is a sweetheart almost too nice and undemanding to be a real cat. I also have a Maine Coon Tom that makes up for the tortie being so low maintenance though. The MC is in charge of everything, including the dogs. We refer to him as head of security here because he will open cupboards to check things out and patrols the house. He also plays in the water and spills it all over the floor- at least twice a day. I have another Maine Coon female that acts about half wild; not with me but if strangers come in they always look at her and ask if she is a wild cat because of they way she looks at them.
You are right. Thoughtless of me to not think of that.
