White House press secretary Sean Spicer forcefully denied on Friday that the Trump administration is considering a proposal to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up illegal immigrants, including millions living nowhere near the Mexico border.
'That is 100 per cent not true. It is false. It is irresponsible to be saying this,' Spicer told reporters aboard the Marine One helicopter.
'There is no effort at all to round up, to utilize the National Guard to round up illegal immigrants.'

Even if there are posse comitatus obstacles, the militia, when called up, is constitutionally designated (art. 1, sect. 8, paragraph 15) for use in repelling invasions, enforcing the law and putting down insurrections.

Is the intended implication of this slated fake news that Americans would not be ecstatic the NG was getting criminals OUT OF OUR!! country? That is laughable. How about 300,000!! Then line the border with them while we build that huge impenetrable wall!!

I'm pretty sure when Eisenhower federalized the Guard to assist in integrating schools in Arkansas, it was explicitly justified on the grounds that local authorities were unwilling or unable to enforce federal law.
The way I understand the act the US govt cannot use the US military to assist in enforcing local state and municipal law. Only the FBI can do that.

My understanding is that the National Guard is, when activated, just another active duty arm of whatever service it is a part of.
It will happen when the time is right.

National Guard units can be Federalized through a formal and limited process - i.e. brought under direct Federal command - but this is rarely done (e.g. Vietnam, and a few went to Iraq).
While remaining under the command of the State Governor (the usual state), they are exempt from Posse Comitatus, and can enforce laws domestically.
When operating under their governor, they are paid by their governor. That’s why such a deployment would beg to be federally activated. DOD has a much bigger pot of money.

Feds can, and routinely do, pay for a wide variety of National Guard expenses while they are under State control (training, schooling, disaster response, etc.).
The accounts are already established and constantly exercised - just add money.

I think that this might be how this issue came up - Federal budget preparations, to potentially reimburse States. The budget is starting to shape up, and everyone is getting their placeholders in for the upcoming winnowing of priorities.
My understanding is that new funding for starting wall construction is expected in April (maybe May). It is possible that some Guard units might assist (SeaBees, or Engineers), stand guard (Infantry), or respond to riots/demonstrations (Military Police). Even if it is not part of the plan, it is a reasonable contingency preparation.
I think he was, but 52 is a nice round number as well. Alberta and Saskatchewan have a lot to offer heh.
Now hearing Trump might have considred this idea only as a ploy to catch leakers. Multiple copies each with slight variations were handed out to multiple parties. Depending on variation leaked, they’d know who leaked it.
