My guess is that no one will fight harder than the liberals against eradicating ambiguity because they do their best work in an atmosphere of confusion. It's not exactly on topic, but thank you for that thought. You've put into concise words what i was trying to form in my head.

Firing squad is inexpensive, and always works.
Cheaper than hanging.

While I agree that the first hanging is probably more expensive than a firing squad, that does not apply to subsequent executions. Firing squads require a level of skill that may vary wildly and introduce a significant level of FUBAR. Hanging OTH, can re-use the equipment (platform, hoods, rope, etc) again and again. Also guy who pulls the lever need not be a marksman or have any other skills other than having working limbs.
IMO hanging, public or otherwise is the way to go.

I agree. Painless, efficient, and quick.

“Reasonably quick, easy, painless, no mess to clean up: Nitrogen asphyxiation.”
Actually, you could do this very easily. Just rig the holding cell in such a way that the transfer of gases can occur without the condemned knowing it. He goes to sleep one night and just doesn’t wake up. Painless and no emotional distress. Just have a cutoff date for the governors reprieve and perform the execution any time after that.

“The state faces lawsuits claiming the drugs it plans to use would violate constitutional prohibitions against cruel and unusual punishment.”
I’ve read the the good anesthetics are prohibited by the manufacturers to be used for executions.
Seems to me if you put someone to sleep as though preparing for surgery, and then did anything you chose to kill him, it wouldn’t be cruel and unusual punishment.
To: Brad from Tennessee
I’d make this political trade: I’ll agree to ban capital punishment if liberals will agree to ban abortion.

Very good idea! 6 men with 22 caliber rifles, dead in a nanosecond at a very practical price. Hell, if I were the one being killed, I would rather get it that way than some others.
