Ever since the second to last site crash/downtime, freerepublic pages have exhibited very long load times, probably 70% of the time.
Some have already mentioned this issue in other threads. I did a couple of simple checks on my browser and it appears that external content, e.g. images or animated GIFs exacerbate the problem, but tonight, I am seeing the issue on the main index page, which doesn't load any external content at all.
I am seeing load times on the main page exceed 60 seconds. On pages that have images, load times are 80-120 seconds plus.
Anyone else seeing this behavior, and can they corroborate that the behavior started occurring after the second to last site crash?
I am using Firefox v50.1.0, build 20161208153507. The issue also occurs in Chrome v55.0.2883.95 (64-bit).
This is not a complaint, just hoping the mods and/or JimRob might read this and it will serve to give some more clues as to what is going on with the site.
I had that problem, but after making a donation, it was very fast. Coincident? I think not.
Until around a year ago this area was also a dead zone for cell phones.
Verizon built a tower only a few hundred yards away and now I get 5 bars when before I got zero. I have noticed that it is possible to check the internet by the phone but it is awkward.

Come to think of it, slow page loading started happening after Obama turned over control of the internet to the UN.
Or was it after Trump won and democrats are getting even with us here at FR?

I’m very thankful to be located to a main fiber optic cable. Makes for fast internet and very, very few outages. I get 15gb for cheap too. I research at home. It helps.
I’m thinking that DSL added 10% to the value of my house. Nobody wanted to live out here but now houses are going up little by little. Got to think the fiber CenturyFink laid down had something to do with it.

Often just the first upper banner and a blank page immediately appear and then after a delay the rest of the page appears.

Kind of like the dial up days when I first started here at FReepers.
Yea, that technique works for me most of the time. Stop the page loading, hit refresh, sometimes four or five times before the page will complete in a timely fashion.
I tried flushing my DNS cache as well but that didn’t seem to make much difference. Might be worth a shot for others, though...
On windows, get a command prompt and do: ipconfig /flushdns
On Mac (El Capitan) do: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache;sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder; say cache flushed

Does accumulated Freeper mail slow things down on the site?
It’s not latency (a physical constant), it’s either DB performance or Bandwidth.
