Ever since the second to last site crash/downtime, freerepublic pages have exhibited very long load times, probably 70% of the time.
Some have already mentioned this issue in other threads. I did a couple of simple checks on my browser and it appears that external content, e.g. images or animated GIFs exacerbate the problem, but tonight, I am seeing the issue on the main index page, which doesn't load any external content at all.
I am seeing load times on the main page exceed 60 seconds. On pages that have images, load times are 80-120 seconds plus.
Anyone else seeing this behavior, and can they corroborate that the behavior started occurring after the second to last site crash?
I am using Firefox v50.1.0, build 20161208153507. The issue also occurs in Chrome v55.0.2883.95 (64-bit).
This is not a complaint, just hoping the mods and/or JimRob might read this and it will serve to give some more clues as to what is going on with the site.
This feature has been noted by many.
That is net neutrality which ends now!! Where in the constitution are people guaranteed free internet? Shut it DOWN!!Buy it like I DO!!Or get gone.
Go to my you account preferences
http://freerepublic.com/perl/settings
And set you Thread Pagination and Browsing results to a lower number
Yes I noticed it but thought it might be something with my computer etc.
I turned it off, and unplugged the modem for a few minutes which sometimes cures problems but had no effect.
yes. and for several weeks.
I’ve been having to stop the download and then hit refresh.
Comes right up then
yes
Are you logged in?
modem? For real?
I dunno, I’m waiting for the page to load and I’ll tell you when it’s done.
And what does YOUR computer connect to the internet through?
It is a Hughesnet satellite modem. The only kind of fast service available here in the sticks.
I’ve noticed it. It started happening right after the last time the site was down — I forget when, maybe months, maybe weeks ago.
A page loads a few lines and the rest is blank for several seconds. No big deal. Sometimes it may be 15 or 30 seconds. I don’t think it’s ever been longer.
I use Firefox and Opera, mostly on Win8.
Big Time.
I have no problems, everything is working fine.
10mbs DSL/wifi router. I had hughesnet. I became almost suicidal at the cost and the throttling. The second DSL became available I switched. I am lucky.
setting the preferences at a lower number does not solve the problem.
Free Republic is likely under even more DDOS and other attacks than usual (which is a lot). Amazed they have kept the site up as well as they have.
