They are NOT “silencers”. They are sound suppressors. Huge difference. But again, we have ceded the terminology of the argument to the left. Time to stop being stupid.
You guys really want the ATF to visit your homes unannounced just to have these?
Where’s Aaron Rodgers? :)
If it wasn’t about left wing politics, OSHA would have already required silencers. Seems kind of silly to show up at the range all decked out in safety glasses, ear muffs and no silencers.
A serial killer in Vermont used a silencer in the killing of at least one of his 11 victims.
...
Seems to me the real danger was the serial killer, not the silencer.
Silencers/suppressors aren’t a yuge deal to me, but the precedent of not treating firearms-related laws as holy writ and the momentum of actually daring to repeal some has to be a good thing. Up till now that hasn’t been the case, and debate has centered solely on new legislation.
Maybe this will spread to the other 60feet of federal laws, codes, and regulations.
“All i learned about guns I learned from TV.”
Like the “silent” silencer. “Dum Dum Cop Killer bullets.” “Teflon coated bullets.” All bogus.
Rocks, Baseball bats, and 60mph SUVs all have silencers or mufflers.
People murder people! People are the problem!
Liberals just want to control everyone EXCEPT the bad guys.
(yeah, I know, "preaching to the choir")
Just read a letter to the editor/ opinion column by anti gun Chicago Tribune columnist Stephen Chapman. He realizes Suppressors don’t make the sound of a gunshot a “Pffffft.” He admitted they are never ever used in crime, and be wrote that they are no big deal.
Since they aren’t used in crimes, wonder what his opinion of .50 BMG is? Big difference, of course.
“according to a briefing paper by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which is based in Newtown, Conn.,”
They HAVE to now say where these people are now, just to ping that part of the liberal brain.
the NSSF is full of the nicest people.
“Silencers are also marketed as must-have attachments for high-powered rifles a tactical necessity that reduces recoil, thus improving aim.”
Really?????
news to me.
Where do these dumbasses come from? High Powered Rifle and a scary semi-automatic .22LR in the same sentence. The .22 was probably running 710FPS subsonic. Yeah, then it's pretty silent but it's also on the diametric opposite end of the spectrum from HIGH POWERED!! Sheesh, these idiots.
Whatever a "high-powered" rifle is, it ain't "high-powered" anymore if it's running the projectile below 1125fps.
And am I mistaken, or are they trying to call a .22LR "high-powered"?
Homey may have named it a "silencer", but even my NEF Handi BLK with sub 180's and Specwar ain't all that "silent". There's always some noise.
Methinks he may have chosen the name more for marketing than accuracy.
The stupid always gets thick in firearm articles & threads. d:^)
Suppressors are mandatory in much of Europe. If you hunt or shoot near high density populations, the suppression of the sound just makes good sense.
I have never understood the obsession over sound suppressed firearms, nor the reason for a NFA special license.
Most suppressors today are in the name of a trust, and the ATF doesn’t even know where they are stored. The idea of them charging into your home is a myth.
