They are NOT “silencers”. They are sound suppressors. Huge difference. But again, we have ceded the terminology of the argument to the left. Time to stop being stupid.

Yes.
And they also used to be mandatory in many urban areas.

No, no, no! You don’t understand! These Silencers are REALLY silent!
Remember the old Chopper One TV show? When the Police wanted to sneak up on the criminals, the pilot would reach up to the overhead panel and flip the SILENCER switch.
All of a sudden, no Whop whop, whop!
Gun silencers work the same way.
(need I say it?)

"They are NOT silencers. They are sound suppressors. Huge difference. But again, we have ceded the terminology of the argument to the left. Time to stop being stupid." "Silencer" is the term used on Hiram Maxim's patent here:

So, yes, the proper term is "silencer".

Hiram Maxim named them silencers. That’s what he got his product named in the patent. But what did he know over modern shooting sports priggery?

Yep - hard to silence a gunshot - most still produce a "crack" noise, but at a comfortable level. Very small caliber can be made pretty quiet though - of course the racking of the slide still gives it away....
