These are the amazing scenes which show a Russian-built fighter jet taking on a US Air Force F-16 in a mock dogfight - in what could be a sign that America is preparing for the possibility of war with Moscow.

The images were captured by air traffic controller Phil Drake in the skies above Area 51 in Nevada, one of the world's most secret military bases, on the day Donald Trump was elected President.

According to Drake, the aircraft in the photographs are a single seater Sukhoi Su-27P and America's veteran F-16.

He was visiting the desert surrounding Area 51 on November 8, the day of the Presidential election. He hoped to see some fast jets involved in a training mission. This is the moment a US Air Force F-16 was photographed involved in a mock dogfight with a Russian SU-27 fighter

It is possible I guess. Its just not a dogfight. One is simply in trail.

The picture, the headline, the scenario, the location, an air traffic controller caring about two airplanes over his head on a base, publishing an Area 51 picture, which has to be illegal, etc.

All fake.

WW3 WAR DRUMS. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I actually got to engage the F-4’s and they were scary as hell but notorious smokers.

The F-16 was relentless. Getting a kill on them was extraordinarily difficult.

Well, technically speaking, the REASON Area 51 base was isolated and set up in the first place back in the late 40’s using first generation Russian and foreign fighter jets was to do this exact kind of opposition flying and mock combat.

But that range is a bit closer for anything but “guns”

The USAF opposition forces were so secret they even had to go to foreign countries to buy clandestine spare parts and electronics and weapons. But Area 51 was secret ops long before even the U2 start test flying there.

It’s just a range picture. I agree, not 51.

Probably Tonopah.

That reminds me. Do you know how we figured out the Russians were building an exact copy of the B 29? They were caught trying to buy surplus spare parts.

There is a legal mountaintop, like 15 miles away where people camp out with moonscope lenses just watching area 51.
That’s why it can be published. That’s also why this is the most of a closeup you’ll see. It cant be zoomed in anymore.

The "yuge" news is that the (supposed) SU-27 is producing a massive contrail--while the (reported) F-16 is producing none -- at the same altitude.

SU-27 fuel dump? Smoke generator?

Interesting discussion here. I was a Baron Controller for the 64th Aggressor Squadron in the early 1970’s when they were flying T-38’s. To my knowledge Red Flag never used (or used very few aircraft from Soviet/Russia. The Aggressors played that role with US aircraft. The foreign aircraft we had and how they were used are covered very well in the books, “Red Eagles” and “America’s Secret MIG Squadron”. Both very accurately document the history of our use of foreign aircraft. Red Flag was invented by a very close friend of mine named Moody Suter who passed way too soon. He also invented Warrior Preparation Center in USAFE.

You can tune a piano, but you can’t tune a fish.

Great album and one of my favorite bands.

“Interesting discussion here”

Thanks Portcall24. I was hoping for that - something away form politics right now.

Interesting friends you had ...sorry for your loss.
