Poitín now legal to drink in Ireland as first license given [Poteen, moonshine]

After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.

Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.

The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his family’s homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special. …

It will be another two hours before it gets light here. But I just took the trash out and the moon is beautiful. Not quite full, but I don’t know on which side, waxing or waning.

So it must be time to do some reading. My stomach is hurting and I’m almost out of cayenne pepper. I got the woes.

Waning. The full moon was Thursday.

The right side of my head is blocked up. Good thing I don’t have to drive any time soon.

I’m going to make my pages first, and then try to mop.

Happy mopping.

I have a prescription to pick up. Maybe I’ll get it later, since I hate using the gas for one simple thing like that. I have to go in to Vegas next week for my prescription, and will need the gas, then.

In a little while, I’ll go do the dishes. And then it’s anybody’s game.

The dishes are done, and a journal entry is finished and I’m just sitting here waiting for inspiration on what to do next. The dishes made my back hurt, so I have to sit for a while and let the pain pill work. I could make a grocery list, but why?

So I’ll sit and work on the Rolodex. But not at the table. No. Not. The patio chairs are banished, banished, banished to the patio, and I will sit in the recliner with my lap desk (board) and work.

I copied all my files to the slave, in case this thing crashes. I don’t trust it at all. So now I need to do something with my hands. Rolodex, here I come.

You got all the 4s.

I mopped the kitchen, had choir practice, and washed Santana. Next I’ll heat some leftover soup.

WOW! I don’t have to Go Fish, then, do I? Yay, me! Well, I found something else to sit and do until my attention began to drift, and now, I’m contemplating going outside for a bit.

When I come in, I will try to mop up the worst of the accumulation of gunk on the tiles on my hands and knees, with a pan of water. It is looking really bad with all this rain. Getting back up will be the hard part, and I will need a pillow of some kind for my knees. They don’t like hard floors as well now as they did 50 years ago.

And then, who knows? I may find something else to do. Like pack a tub. (I’m actually trying to work off the frustration of the last two days. *sheesh*)

"When I come in, I will try to mop up the worst of the accumulation of gunk on the tiles on my hands and knees, with a pan of water."

That sounds like a particularly bad idea.

You should definitely get a second opinion on the matter.

On another note totally unrelated to anything, we have dissipating-polar-ice-cap falling from the sky.

It has passed the ‘dusting’ stage and is working on the ‘accumulating’ stage..

And on another unrelated-to-anything note, one of my Facepagething friends (happens to be a highschool mate) celebrated his birthday yesterday. We established that he is older than I am.

By two days.

My younger sister celebrated her birthday yesterday, too, but she’s younger than I am. She looks a LOT older!

We just have rain and clouds and wind. Lots of wind. I’m tired of wind. It doesn’t blow — it sucks.

I didn’t get the floors started. I had some pills, then a sandwich and then a friend who just had triple by-pass surgery was online for the first time in almost three weeks, so we chatted for a bit. And by that time, my floor plans were just ideas.

Tomorrow, I have to go get my prescription, early. So I can beat the rush. (ha-ha)

Now, I think I’ll head for bed and try to finish reading what I fell asleep during last night!

Tom the Son!

Hope you have a good night. We had a church luncheon, which went very well. Then we went to Guitar Center and got DP a new tuner. Next there will be a supper.

But he doesn’t have a baby sister to allow for age-in-sister-time. So he is really aging.. ;-)

(Sister-time allows you to have your 50th high school class reunion two years ago and still be 34 years old..)

"I’m thinking of being 50 forever."

Not a bad idea. Ric Edelman was speaking today of things he'll be discussing in a book to be released this spring.

Something about future stuff.

He mentioned new developments in healing techniques, based on adult stem cell therapy, and how they had already extended mouse lifetimes by fifty percent by a couple of experimental techniques, (human trials to follow in about ten years, maybe).

So-o-o, if you can manage to be fifty now, and for the next ten years, we (they) may be able to keep you fifty for as long as you wish.

Now Edelman's take on this is as a financial advisor. Financial advisors for the next century sound like old-fashioned optimists; plan (and save) as though you're going to live forever, and live (celebrate) as though you're in your last days.

In regard to sisters, and birthdays; I'm going to have another birthday next month. I'll still be seven.

But I don’t think “Jeffty Is In The Cornfield” has quite the same ‘hook’..
