Astronomy experts with the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia and the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico have discovered six new Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) emitting from a region far beyond our Milky Way galaxy, according to a recent report in the Astrophysical Journal.
The discovery — made in the direction of the Auriga constellation — has prompted wild speculation that aliens could be trying to get in touch.
It is significant considering the fact that at least 17 FRBs have now been detected in this area and is the only known instance in which these signals have been found twice in the same location in space.
The region where the signals are coming from, dubbed FRB 121102 by scientists, is located about 3 billion light years away from earth.
Five of the recently found FRBs were detected with the Green Bank Telescope, while the other was recorded by the Arecibo Observatory, “for a total of 17 bursts from this source,” the report says.
The signals were also found earlier this year and in 2012.
According to experts, the FRBs could be the result of two things: solar flares from a neutron star or extra-terrestrials. But it’s still too early to tell.

This is either a stupid mistake on the part of the researchers or they are implicitly confirming the “old earth” theory :)
Well, for heaven’s sake, let him out.
So the area of the cosmos the signal came from is 3 billion light years away. Now consider the expansion of the Universe from that part of it in three billion years. It would take light from Earth to travel X amount of time to where they were to sense the Earth so one would have to deduce the relative position of the Earth nearly 6 billion years in advance to send a signal, or you just blast out a signal in this general direction.
I'm thinking it is random, but they say life started on Earth around 3 billion years ago, so perhaps.........

One light year is 5,878,499,810,000 (that's trillion) miles...This noise supposedly is coming from 3 billion of those almost 6 trillion miles away...What's 3 billion times 6 trillion??? Sound travels about 6.65 million miles a year...
And each of these signals lasts just a small fraction of a second...Wore me out just searching for these figures...No way I could do the math...
Seems we'd be better of it these scientists would concentrate on the alien UFOs we see out our car windows on a regular basis...

They have already contacted us - they are called (in various circles) Democrats, Communists, Socialists, and Liberals. I have seen many of them driving around with Hillary/Tim, Obama/Biden, and Gore/Lieberman bumper stickers. You cannot tell then apart from us normal people - they drive, eat, drink, breath...some of them even have legitimate jobs!

3 billion miles away so it would have to be a very powerful signal to be detectable here. Seems unlikely to be aliens. And since the signal was sent 3 billion years ago they would probably be extinct now.
I once received an email from the Nigerian Embassy Finance Director that $35,000,000 was just waiting for my response and signature. I decided to have a little fun, and responded with a demand to PROVE that they were legit. I demanded $5,000 in gold bullion to be Fedexed to my home. I stated that if they were really on the level, $5,000 in gold bullion should be no big deal. They actually responded with “I know understand you.” I responded with “No kidding Dick Tracy.”
