About half the world's population is right-handed but has left-handed family members. Such right-handers have special neurological organization of language and thought.
This has implications for therapies and our understanding of the genetic bases for language.
Our brain imaging studies show that grammatical knowledge is represented differently if you have left-handers in your family. For example, when it comes to language, everyones brain responds to certain language tasks quickly.
But that response is much stronger in the brain's right hemisphere if you have left-handers in your family and stronger in the left hemisphere if you have no left-handers in your family

My wife is a leftie....
She is also a red-head.
I'm always in trouble.
I am very strongly right hand dominant. Also right eye, right foot etc.
I had never thought about it but I stir my coffee counterclockwise too.
As much as I try I cannot make her go counter-clockwise. I’m a lefty. Should I get to a therapist quickly?
My late wife could write mirror writing just as easily as regular. She was right handed and did not have any other similar skills.
Sometimes one way, sometimes the other. I think it depends on if you watch her head or her feet. Also where in the rotation she happens to be when you first see her.
Just blink and she changes direction. Typical, can’t make up her mind.
I think you misspelled that word...
I am left-handed writing and eating (anything that requires dexterity) and right handed in sports (anything that requires strength). My mother is left handed and my father right and I always figured that’s why. Do most people see the lady rotate counter-clockwise if they stare long enough? I don’t no matter how long I stare. If so, Weird.
If you pull the window up so you can only see her ankle you can get her to switch real easy.
A bit nipply.
Yeah,me too.
The only cure is more beer.
When I was in basic training, we were on the tactical range shooting the M16 at pop-up targets from foxhole positions.
They had run out of shell deflectors for us lefties and there was a sudden downpour. Everyone got soaked.
In the middle of my firings, one expended shell shell went right into my BDU top and even below my T-shirt.
There was nothing I could do. I had to keep firing while I heard my skin sizzling.
Fun, travel and adventure!
What are you a peeping tom? (kidding)
It depends on which position she is in when I first look at her.
If I close one eye she reverses.
I’m a lefty, but shoot right handed due to how I was taught.
Hey, do any other of you lefties read books backwards? By that I mean start at the back and skip around eventually gettng to the beginning?
scrolled up to just her ankles, and then just her left ankle, and can’t get my mind to imagine rotating counter-clockwise as hard as I try.
“right handed coffee mugs”
As a righty, I think it is dumb to have the writing facing me - I know what it says. I want the OTHER person to know that I am #1 Dad!
If I take a shot of Crown Royal( my bro sent it to me for Christmas but I opened it early), spin in my chair clock wise and while shouting “Alec Baldwin your flight is ready to Canada” 3 times she will switch rotation.
How odd.
I see her spinning clockwise. Then in a split second she changes and spins counter clockwise. Then after a few seconds changes back.
