Christianity in Russia is by some estimates the largest religion in the country, with nearly 50% of the population identifying as Christian. The largest tradition is the Russian Orthodox Church. By official information, there are 68 eparchies of Russian Orthodox Church.
Recently, Russian president Vladimir Putin signed a new anti-terrorism law, which, among other things, restricts missionary activities in Russia significantly. As was the case in the Soviet Union, believers will be able to evangelize only on property that belongs to their religious organizations and affiliated institutions. Violators may be subjected to steep fines. In addition, the law would tighten government control over Russian Internet providers.
While it would be easy to blame these events on the history of communism in Russia, the relationship between church and the state has a longer and more influential history in Russia.
That would make Russia an enemy of the Democrats right? The enemy of the Democrats isn’t totalitarianism but Christianity.
The spirit of the Democrats is the spirit of antichrist.
“The enemy of the Democrats isnt totalitarianism but Christianity.”
That’s true and if one understands that, things make a lot more sense.
What garbage spin! The law is aimed at jihdists, not Christians.
Putin was Communist KGB through and through.
Doubtful he is a Christian, but he has no compunction using aspects of the Church and oppressing others as it fits his heeds.
Why is Putin worse than Gorbachev, who Reagan made friends with?
It would be helpful if you provided a link to the source of your information, for example the specific law are you talking about.
Both Russia and the US are white Christian nations. Both are large countries with vast natural resources. Both have restive moslem minorities seemingly bent on terrorism. The US and Russia are the two top nuclear powers and both are polar powers. They share a narrow sea border in the far north.
I could go on, but the bottom line is that these nations actually have a lot in common. If you strip away the cold war and communism you find a country that was actually an American ally in two world wars. What if the US and Russia actually were natural allies?
Why is Putin worse than Gorbachev, who Reagan made friends with?
Easy question. Gorbachev didn’t threaten nuclear war or invade multiple countries while murdering thousands.
You don’t anger me. I agree with you.
It also helps to understand that the Democrats are only part of a worldwide surge of the spirit of antichrist as world polarization comes into higher definition between those in Christ and those who hate Christ.
No fear. Greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world and God’s surge in these last days is greater than Satan’s. The day is coming soon when Jesus will come to take His own outta here and then the unabated surge of the antichrist will bring the world crashing down.
Seven years after all that happens, Jesus will return with us to rule and reign on the earth forever and ever. Amazing things on the horizon.
Its probably why the Left hate Russia now. Could always rely on the Left to defend Satan’s minions on earth, like Islamists and attack Christians
Russia is defending Christians in Syria, while the U.S. is hiring Al Qaeda to murder them. McCain and Graham are apparently bitterly anti-conservative operatives in the Republican Party. Putin is hated by the left so much because has fought hard against the Stalinist Culture of death, lowering the still-high abortion rate by more than 85%, opposing radical Jihadis, and even *gasp* proselytism to homosexuality.
That said, Putin is also hated by many evangelical Americans because
(1) many believe that Orthodox might happen to become Christian, but the Orthodox Church is not Christian,
(2) Russia has opposed foreign proselytizers, chiefly Islamicist but also evangelicals, who proselytize against the Orthodox by attacking Orthodox religious beliefs as inherently and irreformably evil (see #1), especially those who promote paranoid world views, such as Scientologists, some 7th Day Adventists, etc.
(3) the cold war hysteria still sells, especially to those who think that the fall of the Soviet Union was some sort of fake-out move by the forces of Babylon.
Democrats: Satan’s Party ??
The two countries are natural allies against this enemy.
Russia is definitely more Christian than Muslim, to be sure.
Russians are unafraid to stand up to Muslims within their own Federation, and suppress them widely. Several revolutions and separatist movements within what was the old Soviet Union resulted in a number of scattered small mostly Muslim provinces, some of which the Russian Federation has had fierce confrontations.
This suppression of Muslims has not negatively affected their international relations, for the most part. They will cheerfully deal with Muslim nations, but not without extracting serious concessions FIRST.
Putin wants to restrict all non-Orthodox Christian denominations.
Christianity isn’t just the largest religion in Russia. It’s the largest on Earth with about 33% of population. Islam is next with 22%. Add Hinduism and Buddism and you have a total of 75% among these four. Non religious are around 16% with half of those being theists who consider themselves non religous-—there is no sense in liberals conflating “religion” as a source of trouble. 75 percent of the wolrd is made up of four religions that are very different from each other. A responsible analysist will learn what each of them is about before speaking on the matter.
The only Christianity that would be a lot of us right all other Orthodox churches will be prohibited.
