I've been fighting Chrome for four days and I'm done with it.
I operate W7 and I like it.
I've had trouble free Chrome for a couple of years, but it has frozen and crashed way too many times in the last four days.

ad blocker plus on my google nexxus fone. Yes, I am not using google’s chrome on my google fone.
Correct. It is a much better browser than FireFox anyway.
Firefox crashes a lot too. They’ve updated it about three times in the last two weeks. Must be a lot of hacking/malware problems out there or something.

Does Chrome on Ubuntu have smart zoom?
What is "smart zoom"? It is common for web pages to have a content column with extraneous columns on either side (for ads, navigation, social media nonsense, etc). A lot of the time, the font in the content column is too small. Or the extraneous columns are distracting. With smart zoom, you two-finger double-tap the content column, and it expands to fill the browser window, expanding the font and crowding out the side column(s).
Here is a page you can use to test. Double-tap the story, and see it expand. Double-tap again, and it recedes. Then double-tap the right side-bar and see it expand.
Moot for me because it is no longer supported on XP. Btw, Firefox runs great.
Why put yourself through OS upgrade hell if you don’t have to.
Because technology is ever-changing and improves.
Don't do the upgrade. When I bought my ASUS desktop, it had Windows 8.1 on it. I simply downloaded Windows 10 (because I was eligible for the free upgrade) and I did a total clean install instead.
You want peak computer performance, then you need to update to the latest program.
In addition to Adblock Plus on Firefox, I also use the addons YesScript ( a Javascript blocker that lets you turn off Javascript on a page by page basis. It is useful on sites like Drudge where it refreshes itself every few minutes. Turning off Javascript stops that ) and one called Privacy Badger that blocks spying ads and invisible trackers.

Wine or vodka martoonies?
I have done many upgrades and fresh OS installs and it is not a trivial thing. Follows if it isn’t broken don’t fix it rule.
Also why most businesses still run win7. Btw, we bought a new PC and had Win10 installed on it. Win 7 was an option. Seems contradictory but it isn’t. It makes sense for new systems.
Thanks for the tip. Bookmark.
I just read previous versions of Chrome were causing all kinds of memory and resource problems. The fix is to uninstall it completely after saving your bookmarks if needed then reinstall the newest version. Hope that helps.
I use Firefox but I do have Chrome installed as a second browser just in case. I don’t like IE.
Also you can install some post editing software to use on on Free Republic with Firefox and Chrome.

Right, you don’t need all that stuff if you get a good browser. Explorer has so many holes in it they will never keep it keen of viruses. But Edge or Firefox don’t get them. Or at least I haven’t had one in 2 years. If they get one. They detect it and repair it before you even notice it.
I started using Opera a few weeks ago, because,
Chrome is no longer being updated, as I have Vista as my operating system.
Firefox got too slow, for some reason.
Learned to distrust Explorer, haven’t tried Edge.
Navigator is so old, it won’t work on some sites.
.
I use either Firefox with a boatload of additional protection, or Brave in unmodified form.
Windows 7
no Chrome, no updates, no complaints
