While rainy weather put plans for a community march on hold, several people still showed up to honor 15-year-old James Means.
"I thought about it, but I thought that for what I want to stand for rain is pretty small," said Trish Hatfield of Charleston, WV.
Means was shot and killed on Charleston's East End last week.
Those who still showed up to the march say they hope it will be rescheduled.
"If it is in the snow I'll be here in the snow. Whatever I takes to show solidarity with the means family and to really try to begin to bond and heal the wounds that exist in our community," said Perry Bryant of Charleston, WV.

When in doubt, punish the innocent.
It’s always somebody else’s fault!
It’s not laws. It’s people acting stupid.
An ED-209? I don't get the inference.
In Tommy Sotomayor’s lingo.....sorry. FReepers who listen to Tommy know what he means...

Thankfully Charleston West Virginia isn’t Baltimore or Ferguson. They will have their little protest and march and be totally ignored. Our Republican legislature pushed through constitutional carry last year over the veto of the Democrat governor, there is zero chance they will reverse it.
The attack unfolded around 8:46 p.m. ET Monday, according to the complaint. Two friends who were with Means said they got into an argument with Pulliam after the older man allegedly bumped into Means in front of a Dollar General store. Pulliam went into the store, they said, and after he re-emerged, walked past them on the street.
The boys, standing in front of a house, argued with Pulliam again, the friends told investigators. One of the friends said Means then crossed the street to confront Pulliam. Pulliam then shot Means twice, the friend said.
Means was pronounced dead at CMAC General Hospital, the complaint said.
Pulliam remains jailed without bond because he has yet to appear before a judge, a jail officer said.
A local ABC station interviewed Pulliam behind bars, and quoted him as saying Means and his friends had threatened him with a gun before he entered the Dollar General store. On the way back, Pulliam told the station, he walked on the other side of the street. He said he did not know why the boys confronted him.
This area of Charleston has been no stranger to problems. Drugs, shootings, other problems. There is a GO-Mart (gas station) near by that has had problems, been in the news and everyone wants to blame the owner of that store when it fact it’s people hanging out there. Just like this kid “hanging out” at the Dollar General. This kid was messing with this man and the man told him to leave him alone. The kid would not and followed him home. The kid did not know when to quit. Yea I believe the shooter when he says he took out the trash, as that whole area of Charleston is full of it. That area in which this man lived used to be nice, used to mind you. Now it’s a ghetto.
Mayor Danny Jones has done nothing to curb it too. Jones is more worried about removing homeless people who don’t bother no one than drug dealers off the streets of Charleston.
“William Pulliam confessed to shooting James Means, 15, with a .380 caliber revolver...”
Interesting. I never before heard of a .380 caliber revolver. This attention to detail reflects on the diligence for accuracy of the writer.
You know this modern journalism.
The teens mother, Nafia Adkins, said: My sons in a safer place now, and we all love him.
On Friday night, friends and relatives held a candlelight vigil for Means. And a dinner was held at Grace Bible Church.
The family, which has set up a GoFundMe page for funeral expenses, made a plea to Means friends: Let justice take its course. Dont seek revenge. Dont post messages of hate on social media.
Im going to leave everything up to the courts to take care of this man and do whatever they have to do to make him be punished, Adkins told the WCHS.
We dont hold a grudge, so nobody else should hold a grudge. We all have to forgive and let everything take its place.
What a nice way to put it.
Well, Nafia, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s likely he isn’t in a safe place. Probably a place quite different than you are picturing.
Sounds like the shooter was a law breaker anyways, as he was not allowed to own a gun. The media is playing this kid like Trayvon though. Other outlets have the main photo of him from when he was like 8. This article doesn’t report that he started an altercation with the suspect by pushing him and then getting into an argument. Most places saying he ‘bumped him’.
And of course they are checking to see if this is a ‘hate crime’. I guess we need to make sure this wasn’t a love crime, but it sounds like a fear or anger crime. Emotions, what a joke.
“In the criminal complaint, witnesses told Lioi that the teen and Pulliam bumped into each other in front of the store, where they exchanged words.
Pulliam went inside and Means sat down on a nearby porch with friends.
When Pulliam later walked past them, the verbal exchange resumed and the teen crossed the street to confront the man and was shot.”
“Pulliam was arraigned on a murder charge and jailed Tuesday, court officials said.”

Not sure what the truth is, but the shooter is charged with murder. But it is certain the gun laws were not at fault, since (as you said) the shooter could not legally carry a gun...
And now I’ve heard of it. Interesting.
