It has never happened to me like this before. Yesterday, I stopped at a little taqueria just east of Austin to get something to eat. As I was waiting, a big, stocky black guy holding a roll of paper towels under his arm came up to me and asked me if I wanted my windshield cleaned for $1. I said, "No, I'm good." He kept on, saying "Hey, just give me $1. Can't you see I'm trying to work to get money for a taco?"
I politely declined, telling him my finances were tight due to car repairs and trying to pay for school for my son. He began to get upset and then looked at me and said, "You're racist!" and some other babble I didn't quite catch. He looked at my wedding ring and said he used to have one, but he sold it. I asked him, "How can I be racist if my wife is a native of Mexico?" "Why would I marry a Mexican if I were racist?" He shot back, "She's not black!"
The poor little woman in the taco trailer told him she'd make him a taco for free(to shut him up) and he settled down. Now, my question is this: Is this a hate crime, trying to extort money off of people as they go to a taco trailer trying to get something to eat? What if I were to have tried that on someone? Police probably would have been called. This has left me with a really bad taste in my mouth. I blame Obama and all Democrats for this. They have so divided people that a lot of blacks have been enabled in treating everyone else in an abusive manner. My CCW was in the car which kept me from telling the man what I wanted to tell him and things probably would not have ended well for the street thief. How sad to put oneself in a position to die over trying to extort $1 off of someone. This nation is going to hell in a handbasket.
The first two were delicious. Then, right in front of him, I bought another one and enjoyed it as well. Taqueria La Sabrosa (4535 TX 71 - Del Valle, TX) by the Exxon Station on Hwy 71 just east of Austin.
I feel your pain
There is one that’s been doing that to me for the last 8 years
Will be glad when he is gone
You shouldn’t have even gotten in a conversation with him. You don’t owe him an explanation as to why you can’t or won’t give him money. That’s your business. Just say no, and walk away. These thugs think that if they bully you, you’ll get scared and give in. I got really good at saying “NO” and walking away, working as an officer, and Sergeant in NY State’s prison system for 25 years. I’m a female, and stood up to all sizes of bullies. I might have even called the police (not 911) to report him, because if he harassed you, he’s harassed others, and he’s probably back there right now doing the same thing.
Buy the man a taco but tell him you need to tell him about Jesus first.
While he’s just demanding a buck from you, if he’s hanging around that poor lady’s taco truck he’s effectively subjecting her to greater extortion by driving off her customers if she doesn’t pay him off.
When I was living in St Louis I saw a guy do this to people coming to the Post Office and he was pretty pushy too. While he was trying to do it to a little old lady a big black guy intervened and told her to go on, then proceeded to chew out the panhandler to the point the panhandler left apologizing.
The guy who intervened was the head of Operation Brightside, an effort to get these panhandlers to clean up and grow up. He told me after the panhandler left that it’s harder to get the panhandlers straightened out when people give in to them ... they can, after all, easily make 80 bucks a day just at a location like the Post Office and all tax-free with no sweat.
Really? So, ignoring him would have deescalated the situation? Seems like it would have made him angrier.
I feel you. I work in downtown Austin and have to walk about 3 blocks from the parking garage to my building. Over the last couple years the number of panhandlers downtown has not only increased but they have gotten more ‘aggressive’ as well. Used to be they stayed on the outside fringes of downtown and just stood with their signs. Now they are coming right into the downtown business district and getting right in people’s faces. Thanks to my 6’4” height and stocky build they tend to steer clear of me, but I’ve had to help a few ladies from time to time deal with some of these people.
Oh, and he really doesn't speak Italian. It's much like this Peter Griffin Family Guy routine:
Just don't try it on a real Italian!
ZING!!!
Go thingyou don’t live in NYC or LA or SF
Why on earth would you leave your concealed CARRY weapon in your car?
Along with being pushed around by some indolent ape, do you want to get the weapon stolen too?
Carry your carry weapon!
When I talk to people and they mention race, I treat it as “the R-word” and I tell them flat out that they are racist to bring up that topic, I won’t tolerate it, I abhor such racist agitation, and I think it’s totally inappropriate.
Black people don’t like it. They want to tell me what a problem I am. I turn it around and tell them they are racist to focus on a shallow issue like skin color. End of discussion. I can “jam” a conversation just as well as any Liberal and all they will hear from me is: “I will not tolerate your racist attitude.”
Turn the tables on him and ask HIM for a dollar.
I have done this many times and it shuts them right up.

What happened to you is disturbing. But talk to me when you’re mugged by a large drug-addicted black guy in New York City claiming he had a firearm in his jacket, as happened to me 26 years ago. I’m sure he assessed my cutaneous melanin concentration the 10 seconds prior to the event. That’s a bad day.
I went to the Giants/Cleveland Game Sunday in Cleveland and there was a panhandler on the bridge asking for money. Gave him a $1, he said for $5 he’d become an Eli Manning fan. We laughed. He ended up sitting right behind us on the first level in row 22 on the 45 yard line.... Must’ve done all right that day.
It’s a common tactic for aggressive panhandlers who happen to be black, to use the race card. They don’t care, they’re dysfunctional people, trying to relieve you of whatever money they can.
Had you offered to buy him a taco, he would have in all likelihood cursed you out. Been there, done that. I had an office on the bleeding edge of downtown gentrification for years, dealt with it daily. The overwhelming majority of them just want money. For drugs and or alcohol. The overwhelming majority are also substance abusers and mentally ill, a very bad combination.
This is why we carry guns: In this country, millions of people of color have been taught from birth that “whitey” is the root cause of all of their problems, i.e., to hate “whitey”...
