THERE is a one in eight chance that the Earth will be hit by a huge solar storm by 2020 which could potentially leave the world without Internet, phone service and many more services that modern-day humans rely on.
Researchers have warned that there is roughly a 12 per cent chance that a solar storm could smash into Earth by the end of the decade.(emphasis mine)
The powerful event would likely be as huge as the Carrington Event, which occurred on 1859.
The solar storm which hit 150 years ago was so powerful that its southern auroras could be seen as far north as Queensland in Australia.
Today, in a modern world so dependent on technology, the implications would be far more severe. ( more information available at website- restricted due to copyright restriction)

much less read a map or compass. Now a days , most people who don't go outdoors don't even know how to read a topographic map !
The book “One Second After” answers your question in a most chilling way.
I read it
Next read is " One Year After" also by Forstner
Step right up, folks. I’ve got Faraday Cages. Lots of ‘em in plenty of different sizes. 10% cheaper than my prices were in the run-up to 12/21/2012. It’s my Mayan discount. Only while supplies last. Protect your sensitive electronic items. Quality Faraday Cages made only from the best materials.
Didn't that come 20 years before the UFO stole the Judge's windmill? Or about the same time the guy found the stone giant?
Piltdown Man ?
Certainly not during this solar minimum! The quietest sun in centuries!
*Women and minorities hardest hit.
So many many times the science community has cried wolf with stuff like this? It’s like they just crave attention.
I save paper copies of EVERYTHING.
I don’t depend on computer memory.
A few years back our email was wiped from out computer. I don’t know how it happened, but we lost every single email we had on it.
I’m guessing next weekend and after the lights come back on all of Pennsylvania’s voting machine records will show Hillary won.
Those who know how to use them will be in high demand.
I know someone who used it on a no calculators allowed exam in college for calculus.
The TA administering the exam was taken aback that she knew what one was and how to use it and said that it said no calculators not no slide rules.
So she did.
I use GPS (dedicated device and phone) but absolutely need to do map recon with real paper maps before I set out on any major trip. I don’t know how anyone can navigate based on a tiny 5” window view of a small portion of their route without seeing the big picture first.
Oh, great. Give my internet company another reason to disrupt service and not adjust the bill.
All your electrons are belong to us!
