I have heard the same 4 or 5 names being thrown around. Are we really that lacking in qualified people?! There must be hundreds Trump can consider! Would be better if from outside the beltway anyway. What is the deal?
I was just having this conversation with a member of a think tank today. They raised two points that I hadn’t considered.
1. No single establishment group was more opposed to Trump than the Republican foreign policy apparatus. Hundreds signed letters against him. Many of the prominent members voted for Hillary. Thus his pool is very limited.
2. He would have a difficult time picking Bolton or someone aligned closely with the Bush administration given his statements on the Iraq war. It might be considered a reversal of sorts. Such considerations limit his pool still further.
I’m not suggesting there aren’t other reasons as well. But, those struck me as two good observations.
A very recent development, mainly under Obama. They have rarely been politicians.
Reagan had Haig and Schultz. Bush 41 had Baker and Eagleburger. Clinton had Christopher and Albright. Bush 43 had Powell and Rice.
Obama had Clinton and Kerry--two politicians.
Romney...not my choice.
Bolton could do a good job, also Rudy could do a good job .... or maybe X Y or Z
but it needs someone strong who will CLEAN HOUSE of all the Nazis and Nazi-wannabees in the SnakeDept
and that’s hundreds of people to clean out of there! its been infamous as a snake pit for years, even before Obama (and he’s packed it with many more IslamoNazis and commie types, all anti-American to the core). NEEDS someone who will CLEAN IT OUT! Think Hercules at the Aegean Stables...
What's so wrong with Bolton? He knows geo-politics and just the guy to clean up Foggy Bottom with his straight forward talk and conservative bona fides. Look at Wikipedia for his resume: looks like the perfect fit against Iran and the other despots. He's pro Israel, anti-UN nonsense, a member of the NRA, and much more. I don't get it.
As for Sarah Palin, I say no. She had a hard time knowing some of the basics of International politics and it showed. I have no clue about Fiorina. Palin for Department of the Interior or Energy.
As for Rudy, since the AG is already filled, I would suggest FBI director! He would be a great addition to Senator Sessions. But then maybe Rudy won't take anything less than a Cabinet post.
I'm available....
So just suck it up and take it. We've got 4 years to complain.
What about Michelle Bachman? Marsha Blackburn? Chaffey?
I am fine with romney. It shuts up the back stabbing republicans and solidifies 2020. I think trump is more interested in his domestic agenda.
There is also Col. Allen West. I would love to see him get a position in Trump’s admin or cabinet
Bolton hasn’t learned the Iraq lesson, He wants regime change just about everywhere and he is constantly pushing the idea of antagonizing Russia. It’s not that you need a push over but a constant state of aggression isn’t what is needed now. I don’t know why I haven’t heard many other names for the position. How about Rick Perry or even Newt?
I see the stir the pot and bitch about winning crowd is still at it.
I agree.
But literally anyone but romney.
Her LOOKS have nothing to do with it, idiot!
We already have a horse face as SOS.
Two in a row would be just WEIRD.
To be clear, you’re saying the qualification for the SOS office depends on what your face looks like?
Go ahead and state again that’s what you believe, idiot.
Kerry has done a TERRIBLE job as SOS.
A lot of that has to do with his horse face.
Keep digging your hole and hurry up and bury yourself, idiot.
I think Trump is going to do what Nixon did.
Pick someone to be the placeholder foreign policy-wise at State - Schultz SOS. The real policy will flow through the National Security Advisor (NSA) - Kissinger. If that’s the case sure it can be Romney, he can manage the place maybe even use his business skills to make more efficient administratively. Let Flynn make and execute policy, Romney can add SOS to his resume & go to ceremonies.
Though on first principles I would prefer someone other then Romney.
