A group of left-wing Californians, frustrated with the recent election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, has filed an application to put a secession referendum — “Calexit” — on the 2018 ballot.
The East Bay Times reports that the group, called Yes California, intends to circumvent the U.S. Congress:
A “yes” vote would trigger a special election the following March in which residents would decide if “California should become a free, sovereign and independent country.”
Another “yes” vote would require the governor of the newly minted “Republic of California” to apply to the United Nations for membership.

Obama really would be the last Democrat president if they seceded their 55 electoral votes!!
That's why this won't be allowed. Letting California secede would trigger a chain-reaction of secession movements. California would be better off supporting the effort to call an Article V Convention/Convention of States.
“Take Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii with you.”
Maybe Portland, the rest of Willamette Valley and some of Puget Sound. The remainder of Oregon and Washington is mostly conservative.
California wouldn’t last 5 years on its own.

If California left, it would have no money to pay for welfare. Government employment and what about the 250 billion in pension debt VA owes?
FACT: There need not be, it is an instrument of UNION not disunion. There is nothing in wedding vows about divorce, either.
Putting down Insurrection is mentioned as an allowable power of the fedgov.
