A group of left-wing Californians, frustrated with the recent election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, has filed an application to put a secession referendum — “Calexit” — on the 2018 ballot.

The East Bay Times reports that the group, called Yes California, intends to circumvent the U.S. Congress:

A “yes” vote would trigger a special election the following March in which residents would decide if “California should become a free, sovereign and independent country.”

Another “yes” vote would require the governor of the newly minted “Republic of California” to apply to the United Nations for membership.

I’ve read articles before arguing that California have proven themselves incapable of independent governance, and should be reduced from Statehood to a provisional territorial status, with military rule from Washington.

Never concede an ounce of soil. Kick the scumbags out to sea.

There is nothing in the constitution allowing the dissolution of the Union. Perpetuity was already assumed by the former government of the nation, the Articles.

Not only is secession unconstitutional the means of combating it as insurrection is provided.

Not in the real world. Why would you assume that the current world situation with us as a dominant power will always be the case? Or that the forces which produce secession will be satisfied with that?

“Reality they are not self sufficient, don’t even have enough domestic water supplies for their populations, so watching them collapse should they ever actually go through with it would be laughable to watch”

they import electricity, eggs, and I think petroleum as well because of their ridiculous regulations, prohibition on oil drilling, and green energy nonsense.

Things would get bad fast and the illegals would POUR into neighboring states, as well as the citizens, who would infest other states.

IT’s easy to see how that could be true. California is incredibly bountiful. But what cost goes pouring into that black hole of mexican-indians and blacks called Socal? I wouldn’t be surprised either way, but the waste of money should stop either way.

As it was in the beginning,so shall it be in the end.Guess those new leftist policies have to find an outlet somewhere, after they’ve been rejected by Americans.

The Democrats would never win another national election.

But then other places would do the same thing, and that would start a chain of events that would ultimately destroy the United States.

A better plan would be to get the wall built, deport the illegals, and stop letting Democrats steal electoral votes (as they surely are) so states like California are actually contestable. They cannot usually win elections without cheating as has been proven time after time.

It wouldn't pass, anyway. In fact, I think it would be a wake up call to many of those that vote D reflexively. That 45% of the country might actually have to rethink their allegiances.

If they want out, they can take their worthless carcasses and go. Not a square inch of our land, though. There are plenty of ready-made commie and muzzie hellholes they can move to. Give them all the ports, rich ag lands, infrastructure, the world’s fifth or sixth largest economy, etc.? You gotta be kidding me! Just fuhgeddaboudit. Not an inch.

Fact: There is nothing in the Constitution disallowing secession.
