..She has for one, shown serious dedication to that most fashion of affectations: the shoulder robe (the art of balancing your coat on your shoulders, which offers a more nuanced, high level approach to putting on an outerwear garment rather than the pedestrian act of simply putting your arms through the sleeves). Her efforts here are accomplished. On stage in Iowa, after introducing her husband as the best master negotiator she stepped back from the lectern, flicked that perfect blow-dry delicately over her shoulder, and all without her bright red coat budging an inch. Thats not just rigid tailoring and a sturdy shoulder-pad; thats professional....

To make an issue of this is absurd. What about Hillary's Mao look and tents?
This reminds me of the 2000 election during the Florida controversy when a huge deal was made over the shade of lipstick worn by one of the women involved, iirc, in the recount. It was just an ordinary shade, yet the media went on and on about it.

When I was little I fell and split my knee open when it hit a sharp rock.
My doctor smoked the entire time he was stitching me up.
I was afraid the ash would drop right into the wound.

Remember when even the fitting rooms of department stores had ashtrays?Yes!
Along with that, you might find a garment off the rack that had a cigarette burn hole in it. :)

I love to see the little Mexican and Central American girls in their chiffon-and-sequins princess dresses. Sometimes the little boys are in suits, too. (They go to the thrift stores or flea markets.)
I think it shows respect for the occasion and the other attendees. That’s one reason I wear address. Another reason is that’s comfortable! I don’t understand people who say dresses aren’t comfortable, unless they’re doing yardwork or at Scout camp (for which even I wear pants).

All the men wore hats on the street,...”
Had to laugh. The guys all wear hats now but baseball caps, even though most couldn’t hit a ball if their life depended on it. I grew up in the era of men wearing “real” hats. In our small town there were two shops that kept quite busy cleaning and blocking men’s hats. Another profession that has been lost in the U.S.
When I was a teen and for a few years after that we wore white cotton gloves with everything and everywhere - and they were sparkling white. Miss those days.

I’m kind of glad things are different now, even if they might have gone overboard.
It is silly to worry about cig smoke outside though if one is surrounded by exhaust fumes.

I was on Amazon several weeks ago. I found those little square scarves from back in the 1950’s. Loved those, poodle skirts and the black and white saddle oxfords and Bobby socks. Those were the days.
