Since the campaigns are over and electioneering can cease, let's take a realistic look as the lay of the land and understand what is likely to occur under Trump's administration and what is not likely.
Indeed, Obamacare repeal legislation has been floated numerous times by the Republican House over the past several years, only to find an unwilling Senate or Executive roadblock to kill all possibility. I contend that we are in a similar situation now.
A perilously bare "R" majority in the senate will be the death knell for any repeal for at least the next two years. Democrats will form a monolithic bloc of opposition to any repeal, and the remaining RINO's will insist on meaningless tweaking of the current law before they'll sign their names to any legislation, but won't go for an outright repeal. So, the senate remains a roadblock.
If I'm missing anything in this analysis, let me know. I'm just a realist who doesn't see a way forward, especially with the raw hatred of the left aimed straight at America.
The Democrats in congress will also vote to repeal ObamaCare, voters are demanding it be killed and replaced.
Forbes said this.
Under President Trump, Repealing & Replacing Obamacare Will Be Harder Than It Looks
All Trump has to do is issue an EO forbidding the IRS from taking action on penalties on those that refuse to buy the crap, and it will fully collapse of its own weight.
Congress passes the laws, but POTUS enforces, or chooses not to enforce them, up to, and including pardons.
Obama has chooses to ignore the constitution plenty of times.
Kill it January 20th.
Stop the Obamacare coverage immediately.
Watch the cost of of health insurance premiums fall, fall, fall!
That’s what Trump will do!!!
We should not start the reversal of the last 8 years of oppression with talk of “perilously thin margins” and likelihoods and all that.
There are very simple things that could be done instantly. Allow US-wide plans to compete at the US level, not just by states. Further, these government MANDATES about acceptable plans in tiers is horseshit. Let people buy what they need and stop mandating that the plans must all cover birth control, abortion payments and a whole host of other high-risk, immoral lifestyles simply because the government once endorsed them.
Lots of ways to reform Medicare and Medicare coverages and payments also.
We don’t have to tippy-toe around anybody. Get it done.
Trump just needs to say that the first thing to be delivered is the cronycare repeal. The autopen veto is warmed up for anything else that comes in. Oh, and with this shutdown the national parks stay open.
I base that largely on the fact wimps like McConnel go with the flow, they appease the powers that be. Trump is now the powers that be. Pubbie wimps that kissed bammies arse will soon bow before Trump. We are already seeing it.
Correct Sac.
The idiots - Obama and Congress - have no idea how insurance works, or health care, or private citizens’ budgets.
They just believe that the Government has permission to tax, tax, tax and redistribute the funds for pet programs and their own salaries.
All President Trump has to do is declare universal amnesty from Obamacare for all current and future US citizens.
Have you learned nothing about Trump? Holy cow.
Yes, you are missing that the dynamic has been turned on its head.
Beyond the RINOs not wanting to explain to constituents why they left the massive increases and penalties intact (which are necessary to keep the thing barely afloat), you make the big mistake of assuming that Democrats will be a monumental block. They answer to their constituents as well, and the power structure for the Democrats will also be turned on ts head. New blood in Democrat leadership will be looking to make their mark, but they won’t be as powerful as the old structure, and a Democrats in States that don’t like Obamacare will be able to exert independence.
The dynamic has entirely changed - that is what you are missing. Obamacare is gone.
I could offer suggestions ...
Trump will target Dems who are up for reelection in 2018 and any Dems who are “new” and did not originally vote for it. He’ll get it done.
He will.
50 votes are all it took to pass, 50 votes will repeal it.
Two things different than the past:
1. 2016 election results
2. 2016 premium increases.
“...reelection in 2018...”
Bingo.
Jujitsu is the art of using an opponents strength against them.
And what “strength” can we use against our Rino & Dem opponents?
Answer: their fervent desire to be re-elected.
Obama issued support by executive order through HEW. Without it Obama care falls under its own weight.
Trump can issue a plenary waiver to Obamacare on day 1.
Day one, Trump countermands all executive orders exempting various groups from Obama care provisions.
Suddenly Obama care isn’t funny anymore. Not even to the most bitter globalists.
Your point is no point at all.
