Selling on Ebay?

Posted on 09/28/2016 8:25:25 AM PDT by MNDude

Does anyone here have any experience with selling on Ebay? I just put an ad to sell an iPhone yesterday. I've received several requests to buy it right away and asked for my paypal account.

Some have offered to pay even $150 more than my asking price. I've looked at many of these requests, and most of their accounts were created yesterday, so that makes me very wary of selling something to these guys.

Is anyone familiar with ebay scams? I mean, is it common for someone to get their payment returned from Paypal some how after the item has shipped?

Don’t trust email. Always check PayPal yourself.

While it is a wild world with lots of scammers in it, eBay and PayPal are reasonable if you are victims of a scam. I was, and got “banned” by both, and I talked to both on the actual phone, real people, and told them the truth. Both opened my account back up, though for a few months they limited the amount I could sell on eBay - but the limit was bigger than I needed.

Why is that? Safer?

Possibly. Only because it is easier, cleaner and the process never varies.

- List your item.
- Wait for someone to buy
- Wait for payment
- Ship item when PayPal confirms payment
- Ignore any potential buyer emails before the listing ends.

I've only once broken my rules but I knew it was a legitimate offer and it worked out very well. He offered less than I asked, it was acceptable, so I changed the listing and he hit Buy-It-Now within seconds and then paid.
Kind of too bad because I have sellers remorse. I want that item back because it was so beautiful (A reconditioned antique DuKane HAM microphone) and I did a superb job on it.

Check with Hillary. Her Foundation put the entire State Department on ebay.

Sorry about your experience, but thanks for posting.

You were clearly ripped off, and PP aided and abetted with its policies. I didn’t know that things were this bad.

I sold on ebay a few years back....but opened a checking account only for buyers/sellers on ebay...wouldn’t give my saving/checking account that I pay bills with..When my ebay account got to 100 dollars, I withdrew from that account and put the money in my real account...couldn’t loose too much money if someone tried to get to my account that I listed....
