The signature sentence of this election begins with the words In a country of 320 million . . . I hear it everywhere. It ends with howd it come down to these two? or whyd we get them?
Another sentence is a now a common greeting among Republicans who havent seen each other in a while: What are we gonna do?
The most arresting sentence of the week came from a sophisticated Manhattan man friendly with all sides. I asked if he knows what hell do in November. I know exactly, he said with some spirit. I will be one of the 40 million who will deny, the day after the election, that they voted for him. But I will.

True. The comment I hear most frequently from REAL Republicans is “Finally!”
I assume she thinks that's a positive description, but to me, it conveys "alien."
Poor Peggy. Lost in the thickets of Manhattan.
Noonan missed it.
I didn’t read the full article, but maybe she means that 50% of the Trump voters will refuse to admit it afterwards. If so, that is good news—it would mean he gets 80 million votes. The most anyone has ever received was Obama with 69.5 million in 2008. Of course it is a little harder for a Republican since all the votes have to come from living persons.
At this point in time one who claims to be friendly with all sides is fooling some one. Most likely themselves. They will, and should be, taken for a fool by both sides.
The question I both ask and answer for my lib friends is, “what is a neo-con?” Answer, “The Never Trumpers.” Then I say, these are the Republicans aligned with Hillary Clinton and the Establishment.
They lose it.
agree! youre either out of touch, Peggy, or youre a damn liar like the rest of the dinosaur LSM. More likely the latter.
We got Trump because he beat the crap out of 16 ruthless, angry, and extremely well-financed opponents.
Maybe it is just because I “don’t know anyone who voted for Hillary” but I do believe she is going to get a whipping of astronomical proportions. Which would give me great hope for our future.
The fact that I don’t know anyone that would vote for her I consider an evidence of my discernment of character...
That’s a good point. For some of them, support of the Never Trumpers (and her direct pitch to them) delegitimizes her as a true Democrat. Her ads showing Romneys and Bushes and Sucan Collins type bashing Trump earns few Republican votes who mostly hate the party regulars and drives some Dems over to Johnson and Stein.
I think you can be “friendly with both sides” if you sincerely believe that, regardless of what happens, you will be insulated - by your wealth, education, “sophistication” - from any negative outcome.
BS. Romney and the kenyan were a far, far worse choice than Trump and Hillary Criminal.
For Noonan everywhere means wherever the elite and enlightened live. Or those places buffered from the engineered destruction of middle-class America in favor of a globalist model of privileged elites and dependent peons.
what a load! saw polls on fox the other night regarding how certain people were to stay with their choice, 90% and upward
She wouldn’t know anyone from drive by America if they bit her on the ass. Just another leeching elite running on has-been 15 minutes of fame.
Peggy, we don’t trust or believe anything you people say anymore.
-Peggy Noonan, Oct 31, 2008-
Sorry, Peggy, your opinion was, and is, worth squat.
I’m only a Republican because the darn Neanderthal party hasn’t gotten any traction yet.
WSJ owned buy Murduck and Noonan are a perfect match.
Both of them can go to hell!
