Do trees have brains and talk to each other? They are intelligent, express emotions and make friends
Daily Mail ^ | P Wohllenbeen

There's increasing evidence to show that trees are able to communicate with each other. More than that, trees can learn.

The main reason humans cannot perceive how clever and complex they are is because we exist in such short time scales by comparison. There's a tree in Sweden for instance, a spruce, that is more than 9,500 years old. That's 115 times longer than the average human lifespan.

I know *you* won’t laugh at me for this.
(Donning my IDGAS suit for everyone else.)

Several years ago Mrs. Shibumi and I went on vacation in the Ozarks.
We had a really nice condo on a lake and across the bay was
a wall of trees as far as I could see in either direction.

As the wind blew through them, I swore I could “read” what
they were saying to me. But ten days later I left anyway.

I used to have nothing to do with cats, and now have 5.

I was a dog lover. My last dog got old and died some 15 years ago. In the meantime, some feral cats started visiting my back yard and I started feeding them and playing with them. A couple had kittens and brought them, and I took a liking to some. They've come and gone over the last decade, and I similarly think coyotes got them, if not car accidents. My wife won't let them in the house, although I let them in the garage or my workshop toolshed where a couple keep me company.

There are currently 5 cats on my deck, 4 from one litter. The 5th one is my favorite, was part of a litter of 3 and a mother until the mother and a kitten disappeared, and I raised the 2 remaining kittens. One of those 2 cats was the one that got sick and died. We have raccoons, skunks and possums visiting our yard most nights, but they don't bother the cats. Lately a coyote has been spotted in the neighborhood and cats are disappearing, last spotting of a coyote was two blocks away in someone's back yard. We're in a residential suburb of SF with lots of wooded yards but wildlife is coming from parklands a couple miles away.

Anyway, like you, the cats calm me and make life good, especially when I'm doing my woodworking or gardening. And they also make me forget about leftists!

They send each other “Treets.”

“Look out. School of dogs coming.”

“Which direction?”

“From the north.”

“Look out. They are almost here!”

“Move!”

“Where am I gonna go?”

“Ooh, they got George!”

Couldn’t watch more than 15 seconds; too much raw emotion.

Wackos.

There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas “

Sounds like macro-aggression to me.

I wonder if trees will ask for a safe space?

A spruce tree was admiring my guitar today and, it told me that it would like to be one.

There once was a tree known as a spruce
Which did grow very large and profuse
They thought it was real
That trees could really feel
And still thought they had no screw loose.

You never see black oaks and white oaks in the same forest. Trees are deplorable.
