Wozniak hasn't invented much of anything since the 1970s. He's stuck in the 70s. Along with analog jacks. He was against many of the things Apple was doing in the early 1980s, so he was sidelined. Not that he wasn't creative, he was genius in what he did... back then.
Wrong, wrong, wrong. No one is forcing anyone to upgrade. Existing headphones and accessories work with the supplied adapter, supplied for free by Apple in the iPhone 7 box. No one has to buy the expensive AirBud earphones, as Apple also supplies a wired set of earphones in the iPhone 7 box. No one is being forced to buy anything.

I’m busy enough getting earwax outta mine to have time to shove buds in. When I use headphones they are loose-fitting, over the ear types. Having been a musician most of my life I’ve learned to watch out about sticking stuff in my ears.
I agree and need to add that the sound has to go to electrical analog sometime to make the head phones work... even with the best output dac, if the output pre/post analog amps suck and the head phone dynamic elements are inferior then what you have is expensive crap!
Okay, how long before every other smart phone maker does the same thing, and will you tell them it's a stupid decision? Of course, by then you'll be praising the other companies like Samsung for doing the same thing, and will say Apple wasn't the first to do so. I've followed other changes in the industry over the last few decades, and it follows this pattern. Apple does away with an item, and replaces it with newer technology. Others, like Microsoft scream out that it's stupid. Within a couple years, Microsoft and the others do the same improvement and try to take credit for it. (Remember the Zune?) It's happened before, and it will happen again and again. It's remarkable how often the other manufacturers make stupid decisions by repeating what Apple does.

Before they yanked it out it already had an adapter, lol. Did you look at the pic accompanying this article? What kind of idiot would want to walk around looking like Lt.Uhura (x2)?
Wrong. The price didn't change. The new iPhone 7 is being sold for the same prices as the old iPhone 6. But it now has more memory options and more functionality. And it comes with a set of wired headphones and an adapter for a minijack - for free (wasn't supplied before).
Until the elimination of the headphone jack, I was considering going to the I phone. No more.
I also do not want to carry $150 headphones around. If I use bluetooth headphones, it will require batteries or cut down on battery life in the case of noise cancelling headphones. I was going to get an I phone in part to work with my Bose noise cancelling headphones. This is a deal killer. No I phone for me.
I have no problem with the headphones connecting through a more advanced port.
I’m on my third iPhone and I hate what they’ve done. I will stick with my 6s as long as I can and then I may consider other options. I just don’t care about sound quality much. I use earbuds all day long, but I rarely use them for music. I’m usually listening to an audiobook, sermon, lecture, or streaming talk radio. I don’t need enhanced sound quality for audiobooks or AM stations. The only time I use my iPhone for music is in the car and then I’m connected via Bluetooth. I also use the same pair of earbuds for my phone, iPad, and a small pocket radio that I use for AM. I buy cheap earbuds because I often lose them or break them. I’ve got them stashed all over the place—car, briefcase, workshop, nightstand, etc—so I’ve always got them handy when I want them. I don’t want to buy adapters and I don’t want anything else to keep up with.
The iPhone 7 comes *with* headphones.
Do you not understand what an adapter is? Apparently, not. And Lt. Uhura is 83, so not a good comparison.
Exactly HOW did Apple increase the price by $100? Where? Apple increased the storage memory and included more features and kept the pricing the same. Where's the $100 price increase, Louie?
I suspect the highly improved camera and processing of photos will drive sales - apart from plugging headphones into a different hole.
Also, a much better chip.
That is exactly the same words that were used when Apple discontinued the 3.5" floppy disk drives. . . and discontinued the optical drives. Each time, Apple provided an external drive for each for those people who still needed them. The accessory drives did not sell well.
It was not long afterwards that the PC crowd followed suit.
Windows 10’s Fault?
I'm still not sure why Apple's detractors always feel compelled to misstate the facts whenever Apple changes something.
