The Lady Chablis, the transgender performer who became an unlikely celebrity for her role in the 1994 best-seller "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," died Thursday in Savannah. She was 59. Chablis' sister, Cynthia Ponder, confirmed she died at Candler Hospital. A close friend, Cale Hall, said Chablisdied from pneumonia and had been in the hospital for the past month. A modern, nonfiction take on Southern Gothic storytelling, author John Berendt's "Midnight" thrust Savannah into the pop-culture spotlight. And the sassy, blunt-spoken Chablis rode the book's popularity to a level of fame that was rare for transgender performers at the time. "The legacy that she wanted to leave was one of 'believe in who you are and never let the world change who you are,'" Ponder said. "Love yourself first and respect yourself first and others will love and respect you." Chablis insisted on playing herself in the 1997 "Midnight" movie directed by Clint Eastwood. That same year she published an autobiography, "Hiding My Candy." Berendt's book had no shortage of quirky, true-life characters a voodoo priestess, a man who tied live flies to his lapels and a piano player with an encyclopedic command of 6,000 songs. Chablis was easily the most popular, Berendt said Thursday.

My point is that the leftist revisionists use this to justify our position to him, regardless of chosen behavior.
We are in agreement.
Pneumonia is a common death from HIV.

Rest in peace.
I agree. I’m a “whosoever will” believer in Christ, but I think that “whosoever won’t” is in big trouble.
It points out an important fact that strikes at the heart of feminism:
Men are better than women at everything...including being a woman.
I agree. Genuinely Lovely person.
Rest In Peace
Well I read the book first and then did research on the people. It never occurred to me the writer was gay too.Saw the movie and hated it.Saw the movie 10 years later and got it.My favorite scene was Lady Chablis walking into the Black debutante dance. The girls were dressed in all white. He walked in with a blue sparkle dress and the guys were falling all over him not knowing he wasn’t a she.You could see mental illness there.Clint Eastwood decided to let him portray himself.

Well, good for you. At one time, I thought that you were a mensch.
Not now.
I must have missed where in the article it says the person in question was gay.
God knows, I 'd be at the end of the line.
What part of LGBTQ do you not understand, Governor Johnson?
Among his rewards . . .
Miss Gay World 1976
Now I’ll go take a shower for even responding to your silly post.
Scriptural ignorance is one of the great signs of a nation’s decadence.
