GREENSBORO, NC -- Are some Walmarts "better than others?
We're talking good customer service. Clean stores. Stocked shelves. Short check-out times. According to a new study, yes.
Andy Reich, a Columbia University Assistant Professor of Sociology says his study has revealed not all Walmarts are created equal.
To simplify his findings, he says, White and rich neighborhoods have better Walmarts than Black and poor neighborhoods.
People used words like unorganized, nasty and worst to describe stores in communities of color much more than they used those words to describe Walmarts in Whiter communities, Reich said in a Skype interview.
He says he analyzed 35,000 Yelp reviews across 28-hundred Walmart stores in the U.S. He then used those keywords and matched them with the reviewers' race and neighborhood they live in. The data was collected between 2004 and 2015.

Duh. When your store is not victimized by constant shop-lifting and low-life scum fighting in the isles, trashing the place because they have no manners or respect for other people’s private property, and they have no education and were raised by a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who were all raised without a father figure, you are going to generally chase businesses away and they will close down and move out.
Black neighborhoods are lucky to have a Walmart at all.
It also describes the communities of color. The people who live where the store is located are the ones trashing and stealing from the store.
THEY are why THEY can not have nice things.
The stores in poorer neighborhoods can’t help that their clientele are careless, thieving, damaging, ignorant and mean.
They can’t get good people to work there; facing the cretins daily is depressing. Just not worth it.
Watch more of these store become pick-up locations only. Order online, pay and get your bagged items.
True. My wife and I were amazed at a Mc Donalds in a rich neighborhood as compared to our average ones. I imagine in the poor neighborhoods you need to be armed.
Only after the first few weeks!
D'OH!
The only Super Walmart I’ve been inside frequently of late is verging upon rural but on an interstate with other retail, Lowes, Advance Auto Parts, various fast food. It’s very nice, clean and well-stocked. Has been since it opened. I stopped going to the other one more in town, that’s about the same distance away. Sketchy people in the parking lot, older store, not well kept, not as well stocked. Neither is in a black neighborhood. As far as wealth, the older one probably would be regarded as a more wealthy area, but it’s an older retail corridor that has slipped.
I call the walmart near the “ethnic” part of town the “mos eisley cantina”... lots of jawas there too....
A wretched hive of scum and villainy....
As someone who owns three Walmart out parcels I can attest it about who shops there
Walmart in black hoods are frankly deplorable with very high theft
Mostly ultra fat black women stuffing their clothes
They all have cart checkers when u leave the store like SAMs would
Walmart in white trash areas are marginally better but it’s hard to tell given in the mid south whites trash and blacks are becoming highly tanned trash asap given the newfound breeding opportunities for fat white girls and the erosion of any cultural taboo
WalMarts in middle and upper middle class white environs are the best no question
Some don’t even cart check cause they don’t need to
Cause white folk ain’t steeling like them black folk.
There is a Wal-Mart near me, and I have heard any number of people say they never go there. Too many Muslims. A mid-sized midwestern city that Obama has targeted for transformation, with the help of Lutheran Social Services.
It’s always the good ones who move in first
If you’re lucky and there aren’t enough in your area to swarm then you’ll be fine but in the Deep South it went like this
1) decent white middle class Cleaver neighborhood
2) something happens in the area....forced busing or new section 8 style housing project
3) saavy whites first move
4) nice black family moved in and everyone loves them and comments what were we worried about and shame on our bigoted realism...my grandma had a black detective next door and he was really good to her...I still do Christmas cards with his widow who now lives in a condo in the resevoir area....white
5) then more move in and you notice it’s not quite the Huxtables anymore but why panic...who wants to be a racist meanie right?
6) here comes the stampede all of a sudden they are the majority and it’s not so friendly anymore and your women are scared or worse yet.... They like the leering and unrestrained come ons and crotch grabs
7) now it’s full blown hood.....the original good blacks have moved on to yet another decent white neighborhood like anyone else who could and some old slow to get smart whites are stuck in a down valued home at 70 terrified as yutes roam the pavement
8) back to tumbleweed and crack houses and abandonment....grassy old asphalt and dog packs ....Omega Man scenario.....
I’ve lived this as did one of my grandmas
Jackson Miss or Memphis or Baton Rouge or north Birmingham
Maybe in whitelandia it’s different not here
The only exception is high end
I used to share a neighborhood with Eddie George and my son plays football against his
We also have two ranked black cardiologists nearby
At this level the threat is not there really but working class white once it starts its over, the only thing can stop it is regentrification usually by homosexuals looking for value
That’s happening in Nashville right now but Nashville also has smallest black population percentage of any major southern town
The realtors profit though on both ends
I didn’t think there were any stores in black neighborhoods. That’s what Obama said.
I live about 30 miles outside of Philly, and when I go into any stores, especially the “big box” stores, I NEVER see hints of the kinds of messes that are common when I have been in similar stores in and very close to Philly. It’s not a mystery, “urban” clientele is much more likely to be sloppy, wasteful, and inconsiderate of others..... not to mention more criminals. If someone wants to make it about race, so be it, but that is what I have observed over many years and decades.
At the McDonald’s in McLean, Va., there are condiments galore, soda machine for free refills, napkins, knives, forks, spoons, etc. At a McDonald’s in a black neighborhood in Baltimore, nothing. Not even salt and pepper or napkins were out where people could get at them.
My mother noted fifty years ago that black women in a ladies’ room would pull ten paper towels out of the dispenser.
I think it has something do with reparations.

There are 2 Walmarts near me. One in Fallbrook and the other in Porter Ranch, CA. They look the same as far as the people are concerned. Porter Ranch is where you need $750,000 to over a million dollars if you want a detached house with your neighbors in arms length away from you.

West Hills you need about $500,000 to start. The home are worth $150,000 but this is California.
I would hazard it’s a reflection of the community in which they are located.
I find myself going to stores where the customers are respectful of others, don’t mess things up, don’t touch everything in arms reach, don’t have kids playing with stuff and running around uncontrolled.
To be fair, the nice one in Knightdale closes too. :-)
Did he happen to mention the employees color?????
